The body of an 80-year-old woman was found in her home in Kushiro, Hokkaido, police said.

According to police, the body of Hiroko Tanaka, who lived alone, was found in her living room at around 4 p.m. on Friday, Sankei Shimbun reported. A plastic bag had been placed over her head and she had been beaten about the head, police said.

The body was found after Tanaka failed to show up for a New Year social club event for elderly people. Concerned at her non-appearance, one of her friends came to see if she was alright and discovered the body.

There were no signs of a struggle in the living room and no signs that the house had been ransacked, police said.

Sheesh! Horrendous. Anyone that does this to an elderly person deserves the maximum punishment the law will allow.

I really hope the police find the culprit. Start with friends, acquaintances and family members. Something tells me she knew the person who murdered her.

RIP.

Kinda hard for an octogenarian to put up much of a struggle. But, regardless of age, what a terrible thing!
