81-year-old man arrested for attempted murder of wife with hammer

Police in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, have arrested an 81-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to kill his 80-year-old wife by hitting her on the head with a hammer.

According to police, Toriichi Okazaki is accused of hitting his wife on the head with a hammer several times at their home at around 8 p.m. on Sunday, NTV reported.

The victim called a relative who contacted police. She was taken to hospital but her life is not in danger, police said Monday.

Police said Okazaki has admitted hitting his wife but denied any intent to kill.

Reminds me of Paul McCartney's song "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"  about Maxwell who goes about plunking people with a hammer. 1969 Abbey Road song, perhaps this guy was a Beatles fan.
