do you still lock up an 81 YO man in prison?

It's a big problem in Japan as there is an increasingly aging population in prisons. Three meals and free amenities, it's better than homeless for many.

"he strangled his wife with a cord sometime on Monday night." why? has he given the police any reason for his actions? did she have a terminal illness? was it some thing he did out of compassion or hatred ? for what ever reason, do you still lock up an 81 YO man in prison?
