Police in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested an 81-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 85-year-old wife at their home.

According to police, Yoshio Kawabe called 110 at around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday and said he had killed his wife Hatsuko, Kyodo News reported. Police went to the residence in Midori Ward and found the victim in the first-floor living room of a two-story house.

Police said Hatsuko had visible wounds inflicted on her neck. She was declared dead at the scene.

Police said Kawabe has so far given no motive for killing his wife. The two lived alone.

The humanity. It is like going to the toilet, an everyday thing.

so sad!

Say a couple spend 50-60 YEARS living together and then one kills the other. There has got to be a mitigating reason ignored in the scant details that would make clear a motive such as inability to see the ongoing suffering of a beloved one and the unimaginable pain and loneliness in 'alleviating' that suffering. That this man, in his advanced dotage, suddenly became a homicidal maniac is a thought that only a sick mind that doesn't recognise its own sickness could conjure.

@William Bjornson the couple may have spent years together as a loving couple but I totally disagree that this man became the "homicidal maniac with a sick mind that doesn't recognize his own sickness that you paint him to be"!! Perhaps the husband saw his wife suffering through sickness and could not bare to see someone he loved and spent so many years with suffering and he couldn't do not but the unimaginable. You even pointed this out but called him a homicidal maniac. Personally, I don't think it was a "SICKNESS" I think he did this out of perhaps the pain and suffering he saw his wife going through. The details were not printed here but the amount of years they spent together just don't paint the picture of someone hating someone enough to kill them. Perhaps there was an agreement, or he did it out of deathly love!!
