81-year-old man gets suspended sentence for killing 85-year-old wife

The Chiba District Court has sentenced an 81-year-old man to three years in prison, suspended for four years, after he was found guilty of killing his 85-year-old wife at their home in July.

Yoshio Kawabe was convicted of strangling his wife Hatsuko on the morning of July 5 at their home in Midori Ward in Chiba, Kyodo News reported. After killing his wife, Kawabe called 110.

The court heard that Kawabe had been the sole caregiver of his bedridden wife for many years. Kawabe had claimed that his wife told him she wanted to die and asked him to kill her. Kawabe told police he couldn’t stand to see his wife suffer anymore and carried out her request.

Interesting how there are different levels of murder in Japan. I sympathise with his situation BUT if a 50 year old father had said his 18 year old daughter had ‘asked to be killed’ would he have been given a suspended sentence?!…

The right sentence in this case. There seems to be a lot of similar murders these days.

So suspended sentence means he will go to prison if he kills his wife again, but he already killed her?

DIY euthanasia? And this horrific and heartbreaking choice will become more common in the future...

So, given the disregard which Western governments seem to have for the senescent, how long before "Thanatoria" (see: "Soylent Green") become a 'thing'? Parasitic Elites and their politicians have little regard for those who have spent their exhausted lives working to support those parasites and just TAKE, and begrudge any penny or yen which must be given to or for those from whom nothing else can be taken. And the rest of us accept this. How 'noble' we truly are...

What a sad story! As an octogenarian myself, my thought goes round and round about it.

Proper response by the courts.

What's more intresting would be to hear the reasoning for the suspended sentence. And sentenced to 3 years for strangling soomeone to death? Ssending a great message there, Japanese justice/court system!
