What happened to kind and cuddly Gran and Grandad?

I find these stories to be deeply saddening.

These stories are all too common in japan.

What a situation for these people.

Think about it. They are elderly. Most likely on their own because maybe they had kids or maybe they didn't and if they did maybe the kids aren't around to help them.

They are most likely infirm, on meds (or not). They probably lack mobility. They probably lack strength. They probably lack complete cognition.

Or maybe one is like I just described above and the other is fine in which the healthy one has to constantly help the infirm one and often is the case the infirm one gets bossy. ( it happens a lot in these types of situations)

They are constantly holed up day in and day out in a small apartment or house 24/7 other than making brief trips to the supermarket and hospital.

Then, maybe, the healthy one loses their cool and flies off at the handle and injury and or death is the end result.

Too bad the j-govt can't remedy this situation.

Good question. Frankly, I don't know. But it's worth talking about at the very least.

My immediate response would be to offer some type of government assistance but that would require taxpayers' money which some people are adverse to, including myself.

Without knowing, I'm quite sure there are govt or private or a combination of the two programs which help elderly people. I see it in my neighborhood, but it doesn't seem to serve all.

Quite a conundrum to say the least.

I'm also quite concerned about this kind of topic as my mom is about the same age, living by herself.

She is lucky enough to have three kids around her place but it's quite depressing to imagine not many senior citizens have no social access.

Just sad all around, when you are young you have a sound mind but as you age the mind becomes your worst enemy. You process things differently and slowly whether good or bad.

Particularly sad because elderly Japanese and other people can be some of the wisest and most interesting people to talk to.

Oh the J Govt is addressing this! They make elderly people pay insurance at a rate according to their social security benefits. If my husband and I live to 90 we would pay a total of ¥5,600,000 or about $41,000 US. That to me seems like a lot to pay for elder care. This is on top of our regular medical insurance!
