82-year-old man arrested after stomping on 10-year-old boy in Chiba park

Several years ago outside the mall near Ebina Station, I witnessed an unprovoked attack by an old man (who had a canned highball) upon a male HS student who was engrossed in his phone. Ojisan threw his drink down and just started in on the kid, no warning, no provocation, and no words even. But the old man was getting the worst of it. The kid was holding him off with his hands but delivering a succession of many hard kicks to the side of the Man's legs. I'm sure he was black and blue later. But the old man didn't want to stop, until a group of high-school boys arrived and politely advised him that he should leave before the police came.

Custodial sentence, please, no excuses.

With the declining birthrate, there seems to a lack of tolerance for children and little consideration for those who are pregnant. And then there are the child abuse cases and systematic failure of child protection services. Just the other day, a pregnant woman was standing on the train and nobody offered their seat. A society is often judged in terms of how they treat kids; they are the future of the country.

This violent old child abuser was lucky one of the dads didnt come down to the park and punch him to the ground. Straight to jail for you, old thug.

That would also be a crime and then dad would be in jail too.

I hope the little brat learnt his lesson. The kid too.

This happens in Japanese public schools as well, and somehow it's "ok" when it's done at school, and by teachers. I've witnessed it myself, with my own eyes, but any remarks or complaints about it are swiped under the rug as "we're not supposed to interfere".

He could've used his wealth of life experience to calmly explain,

Amen to that. The park behind my old apartment had one of those old men who screamed at the kids on their way to school because they were too loud, and then louder if they stopped to play on their way home because he was interrupting their nap (sake induced, I had heard). Got so bad there were signs asking people not to go in the park; I guess it was just easier to ask everyone to avoid a public place they pay taxes for, and for children not to be children, so this old drunk could be like the stomper in the story.

Sadly It's not uncommon with the Showa generation.

I have seen old men at some of the local parks yelling at kids for not being tidy like putting sand on the slide for example. Same old men that are out on trash days making sure people don't mix recyclables with regular trash. The same old men that duct tape notes on cars that they don't know in their neighborhood. When I retire, I want to be stretched out on some beach somewhere, not stressing out about trivial things in the same neighborhood I grew up in then dying there.

Respect is earned, not given!

Why the hell should I treat someone with respect, if that individual can't do the same? Just because he's older? No way...

Wow I commented. On the first comment but I didn't realise there were so many more like minded comments. I understand the sentiment touch my kid and I'll smash you. I experienced an issue not so long ago where another kids dad grabbed my son and proceeded to tell abuse at him. When I eventually caught up with the dad it just didn't seem worth the effort to get off my chair and pop him one so I made him apologise to my son and warned him if he tried it again I wouldn't hesitate to take him to the police and then rinse him out via the courts ... His action did nothing to deter my son who says I am way more scary since he has seen me lift a car up to place some wood under so we could change the flat tire since we didn't have a jack

This old man should get a choice: a very severe beating by the parents of the children, both of whom get to pull his hair, shove him to the ground, and stop on him. Or prison, where hopefully he will be ignored, and if he gets angry has his hair pulled, is pushed to the ground, and stomped on. People like this old man, who are already reliant on young people for his survival, and because of whom there will be no pension for THEM as said young people get older, need to realize THEY are the reason more people don't want to have children and support the nation.

Lock him up... after he pays restitution.
