84-year-old man arrested over murder of 87-year-old woman

Police in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested an 84-year-old man on suspicion of killing an 87-year-old woman in the apartment building she managed earlier this month.

According to police, Masao Masaki has admitted to fatally stabbing Tomoko Oikawa in her first-floor apartment between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on March 2, and then stabbing himself in the stomach, Fuji TV reported. Oikawa suffered multiple stab wounds to her chest and stomach.

A friend who came to visit Oikawa found Masaki lying outside her apartment, bleeding from a knife wound to his stomach. Two blood-stained knives were beside him, police said.

Oikawa’s friend called 119. Oikawa and Masaki were taken to hospital where doctors declared Oikawa dead.

Police waited until Masaki had recovered before arresting him on Friday. They said Masaki suggested there had been trouble between himself and Oikawa over noise.

there had been trouble between himself and Oikawa over noise.

Now he’ll get to enjoy the silence of a jail cell.

Eighty-four! You should be in your garden enjoying your last 15 years or so with the grandkids and great-grandchildren. Guess they'll just have to visit you in your cell every Sunday at the lockup.

Perhaps if buildings in Japan weren't built with paper-thin walls made from the cheapest, crappiest material one can find, there'd be fewer noise complaints and neighborly disputes over said noise complaints. That aside, I don't understand this insistence of quietness when one's at home. It's your home - you should be allowed to let loose and dance around - in your underwear if you so wish - to good music, sing out loud when doing the dishes or any other chore, and watch movies til 3am if that's what your heart desires. Yes, of course, keep the noise down to a minimum after a certain hour but total and complete silence with rules about when you can use your washing machine or hoover? Go away with your nonsense.

"arrested an 84-year-old man on suspicion of killing an 87-year-old woman"

There was a case I read about on JT, long ago, where the elderly husband would allegedly dot his elderly wife's i's occasionally, due to her allegedly meddling with his stuff while he was at work. Her coworkers allegedly noticed her i's but just talked about her in the break room. After a while; allegedly her screws would fall out, and she did not know whether she was coming or going, so he allegedly continued to dot her i's. Finally he was allegedly arrested but served little time allegedly.
