Poor old dude...he's probably just really lonely after his wife passed. Give him a warning and let him go

@Mirai Hayashi

he's probably just really lonely

That's very possible - I think men have a harder time being "lonely" than women do. Anyway, it just goes to show, "hope really does spring eternal"...

85 is obviously too old for her. She probably has her eye on a 75-year-old toy-boy.

THE FACTS:

"The number of crimes committed by the elderly in Japan is rocketing as they make up an ever-larger proportion of its aging society. Government figures show the number of criminals aged 65 or older booked by police in 2011 had risen six-fold in two decades. Most elderly crimes were shoplifting or theft, but violent crimes were also on the rise, statistics show"

Replace 'lonely' with 'crazy' and you'd be spot on! The geriatric crime wave continues. It's interesting the article quotes the ageing society as a cause, but the increase in geriatric crime is much greater than the increase in geriatrics.

I learned new phrase today. Old habits die hard

Funny, romantic, or just plain creepy. I can't decide.

Officers warned him twice against harassment after receiving complaints from the woman, but his behavior allegedly escalated and on May 2 he is said to have broken into her house, a police spokesman said.

Way to sneak in a very vital piece of info JT!

If this is so, then ya, he needs to be arrested.

The Three Degrees - Dirty Ol' Man comes to mind ;)

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

He is not a dirty old man, he just need some companionship. Not that he harassed or stalked someone haft of his age, for god shake she is 80. Not sure what she got on mind but still play hard to get at the age of 80 it is a hard act to follow.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Funny you old think he's cute. It might have started innocently with the waiting outside her house, but he should have taken the hint when she called the cops on him. Breaking and entering isn't any less menacing to her just because he happens to be 85 and you should ask yourselves what he intended to accomplish by doing so.

Magnus Roe, I agree. You don't get a pass on stalking, breaking and entering and scaring someone just because you're elderly. You don't know what kind of physical condition he's in or how strong he is. The woman was in the hospital so we may assume that at 80, she may well have been no match for him had he tried to harm her in any way. My sister's father-in-law was chopping wood, shoveling and cutting the grass into his early 90s. This man may be lonely but he clearly has no idea what is acceptable behavior.

The number of crimes committed by the elderly in Japan is rocketing as they make up an ever-larger proportion of its aging society.

And in other political news today...

Japan needs things like University of the Third Age. There are a lot of lonely old people who are essentially healthy and have little to do. I feel sorry for them, but "stalking" is not the answer.

Warned by police twice and still broke into her home. Just because a woman is old doesn't mean she can allow herself to be stalked.

myjt2014: He is not a dirty old man, he just need some companionship.

Then he should get it from someone who reciprocates his feelings.

Not that he harassed or stalked someone haft of his age, for god shake she is 80.

So, what's your point? Is it okay to stalk and harass someone who's elderly?

Not sure what she got on mind but still play hard to get at the age of 80 it is a hard act to follow.

Seriously? Rejecting unwanted advances amounts to "playing hard to get"? If you're serious, I strongly suggest you get some counseling before you find yourself in a heap of trouble because that is some sick thinking.

@DudeDeuce

Warned by police twice and still broke into her home. Just because a woman is old doesn't mean she can allow herself to be stalked.

When I wrote that, the article had no mention of his previous break-ins or the multiple warnings by the police. JT snuck it in, without no mention that the article had been edited, hence I ammeded my original statement later.

We didn't sneak anything in. The story has not been altered since it was first posted.

"Officers warned him twice against harassment after receiving complaints from the woman, but his behavior allegedly escalated and on May 2 he is said to have broken into her house, a police spokesman said."

"warned him twice" and he totally ignored the Japan's law...

@ Disillusioned: "Replace 'lonely' with 'crazy' and you'd be spot on!"

BINGO!

Very romantic ojisan

Takeo Nitta from Hashimoto, Wakayama Prefecture, allegedly left several telephone messages on the woman’s answerphone in November, saying: “I’m waiting outside your house. Let’s go out.”

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call stalkerdom

He should be old enough to take the hint. Nothing funny about this story at all, as far as I'm concerned.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

...and Japans geriatric crime wave continues.... I mean on one hand, it is great that so many old folks are really genki here, but come... 85 and stalking??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

you would of thought that after all of theses years being married and constantly nagged you you think that he might want a break !!! poor old bugger he must be lonely

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Well at 85 the old guy at least has a lust for life, his drive will keep him going a few years yet :)

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

harassment is wrong regardless of age

85-year-old man arrested for stalking 80-year-old woman

Cradle snatcher!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

the spokesman said, adding he had largely admitted the allegations.

That is pretty broad and open to wide interpretation. Would it be too much for the police to add a little more detail and provide the public with what accused individuals actually admit to during interrogations to include what they deny. If the police cannot then they shouldn't reveal anything the accused said at all.

Condolences on Mr. Nitta's loss, but he needs to apologize to the woman he was stalking and do some time in prison for breaking into her house after he was warned by the police.

"85 is obviously too old for her. She probably has her eye on a 75-year-old toy-boy."

lol

When a guy gets out of line like this, I wonder "Where are the parents?"

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Catch me if you can.

Sounds like he is an experienced stalking/home invasion man who became old.

Old habits never die ?????
