Police in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, said Wednesday that an 86-year-old woman was found strangled to death at her home on Tuesday.
According to police, the victim, Tomoe Sugahara, was found in the first-floor living room of her house by a male friend in his 90s who came to visit her at around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. The man called Sugahara’s relatives who then called 110.
Police said that Sugahara, who lived alone, was already dead when they arrived. They said there were strangulation marks on her neck that looked like they had been made by a thin cord.
The man who found her told police he had tried to phone her a few times on Tuesday morning and when he got no reply, he became worried about her. He said he last spoke with Sunahara at around 5 p.m. on Monday afternoon© Japan Today
