87-year-old man arrested for molesting 8-year-old girl in park

Police in Tokyo have arrested an 87-year-old man on suspicion of molesting an 8-year-old girl in a park in Edogawa Ward.

According to police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of July 31, Fuji TV reported. The suspect, Takeo Utsugi, has denied the charge, police said Friday.

Police said Utsugi approached the girl and a friend from behind while they were playing in the park. He asked the girls to touch him and then he fondled the chest and lower body of one of the girls. Police said the girls ran away and asked a nearby resident to call police.

Police said they are questioning Utsugi about a similar incident, involving another young girl, in the same park in June.

Good lord.

Either these 2 have great instinct or an effective mama actually took the time to sit down and have 'bigger picture' talks.

Or an effective papa

Yep! The safest city in the world - for middle aged men.

Despicable. Don't care about his age, think of these girls' age and the trauma they may have for a lifetime, especially when returning to that park or seeing (elderly) men. Throw the book at this molester POS.

You can bet that this wasn't the first time he did this sort of thing.

Adults projecting the feelings of 'trauma' onto the situation doesn't set a good tone and can very well lead to real trauma. Even though this piece of x did what he did, my message to the children would not be to have them marinade in the event.

For children of this age saying something in the range like, 'what that old man did was wrong! You handled the situation perfectly! It was good of you to take care of it.' Then seeing their response and listening to how they talk about and process it is important.

@ Vince Black

You're absolutely right. That was the case for my family, but for Japanese I'm not sure how common that is yet.

Also within the stark realm of possibility is being 87 he may be destitute and abandoned and figured this a way to get three meals a day, a roof over his head and at least spoken to in prison.

" being 87 he may be destitute and abandoned and figured this a way to get three meals a day, a roof over his head"

If that's the case in Japan, maybe they ought to open a side door in the prisons just for them., and expand their prison systems and put them on the Japanese stock market.

"Police said Utsugi approached the girl and a friend from behind while they were playing in the park."

One of these POS's is going to do that to wrong child, and get a dirt nap.

87-years-old? I wonder for how many decades and to how many victims this guy has been doing similar crap?

I am definitely not condoning child molestation, but is it definitely confirmed that he is guilty as charged?

I was once on the jury for a man charged with child molestation. The jury foreperson was a woman, and there were four women on the jury. It took us less than one hour to find him "not guilty." In my opinion, at least, he should never have been charged. The evidence was no where close to being sufficient for a guilty verdict, and the vote saying so was unanimous. Just saying, being charged and being found guilty are not the same thing.

Garypen, there is no guarantee he had been doing this in the past. Hence why we at least have not read about it before. He is 87 years old, in Japan many seniors undergo a profound dementia process. He could have been a normal man, maybe even decent human being, but as the aging started taking his mind apart bit by bit he might have lost sight of moral borders. I blame the internet and isolation people are introduced in modern Japan.

Daniel Naumoff - I respectfully disagree. There are enough real problems in this world without trying to find excuses for putrid abusers of young children. I am glad this filth has been named, and hope he takes the traditional Japanese exit method for disgrace.

And I hope it hurts.

Then you are a being full of malice and reveling in the moral and physical suffering of others, seemingly trying to justify it with platitudes like "justice" and sorts. And that is without a doubt a real problem for societies today, as well. Of course, my opinion, respectfully.

It's very sad notice but is terrible to be old and depraved

I would hope they didn't make up the story, but it is pretty common for mothers to call the cops on rather innocent old guys looking to talk or play with kids in the park, or just being there watching kids play. I feel bad because they must have nothing else to do.

therougou that would not explain that children were apparently the ones who told the story to others. I don't think they would make it up... but I have seen things.

87 years old... probably precocious dementia, a side effect from the statin he doesn't need but has been prescribed. And when his wife passed, so too did his life, his meaning, and quite possibly his sanity. You boys and girls have no idea what awaits you should the god, Probability, spare you an early demise for the joys of senescence. Listen to what old people say because it will just be rehearsal for your own laments. Whatever else this man may be, whatever else he may have done, whatever good or bad he may have accomplished, he is having the very worst time of his life now, at 87 with maybe just a percentage of the Mind he had as a younger Human. The girl was frightened by his behavior. His life is a complete chaos because of his behavior. And we know nothing. But we do KNOW that if this was an 'uncharacteristic' behavior, the very first investigation we do is of his MEDICATIONS. Nothing can make old people crazier than drug interactions as we are sadly learning in the U.S. because of differences in metabolism or just the potentially toxic nature of the drug as listed in the SIDE EFFECTS information. The SIDE EFFECTS list is just the various 'wedges' on the Wheel of Fortune a person spins whenever they take ANY pharmaceutical. And on more than a few you will see, for examples, RAGE (benzodiazepines), precocious dementia and peripheral neuropathy for two (statins). The girl will heal. The man will pass on. And tomorrow...? Life...

You know this man, do you?

87? Wow, apart from being a creep, I wonder what he is taking to keep his testosterone level high at that age.
