An 89-year-old man was arrested Thursday over the alleged murder of this wife in their home in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Police said that Tatsushi Fujisawa is accused of strangling his 85-year-old wife Namiko to death with his hands at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Namiko's body was discovered at around 7:30 p.m. on the floor of a tatami room by the couple's eldest son, who lived nearby. According to police, Fujisawa told his son, "She was being more violent than usual. I couldn't stand it any longer."

And he found the right moment just now?! Would be very interesting to know for how long were they together (married)?

Long time ago in the 1990's in Okinawa, I've seen an Japanese old man sucker punch his wife on the front lawn. I really didn't have time to do anything to stop the fight or do anything because the bus would have gotten into an accident if I told the bus driver to stop.
Plus, I didn't know the law at that time if I interfered I would have been jailed.
I was on a public bus at the time and couldn't believe my eyes.
Seniors have domestic violence too !!!!

I've seen a similiar incident too back in the day in Ginza an old JN man popped the crap out of his wifes head and she managed to cross the street away from him...but cont. to walk in parrallel with him. I was so surprized to see this with other JN onlookers in public.

This was a case of DV, but from wife to husband. Guy couldn't deal with getting beat up all the time.

This is really sad, poor guy could not thought of an easier way to kill her, like dump to the sea or under some of those broken homes and just say that she was missing from the quakes or tsunamis?

elbudamexicano: You took the words out of my mouth "This is really sad". It is sad...couple at that age are supposed to enjoy what few years they have left. Sad story if you ask me.

"“She was being more violent than usual. I couldn’t stand it any longer.”
Yeah, I hate that too.

Yes, I can suspect there's a lot of stress going on, even our seniors will fill it the most too.

This is seriously sad.

Hmm, she may have had Alzheimers...
That was indicated as the cause in the Japanese version. She was suffering from dementia and he had been her caretaker. Sad indeed.

I'm disappointed at reading some people's flippant comments. This is seriously tragic. There is a lot of elder abuse in this country, and there is a lot of dreadful lack of care of senile people. I imagine there is a long and sad story behind this little news brief. It could be a kind of almost double-suicide behavior -- the old man so desperate that he'd just as soon go to jail as have to continue to care for his wife.

I'm half his age & have to provide care for my wife. Although I haven't strangled or hit her, I've also said “She [is] being more violent than usual. I [can't] stand it any longer.” on more than one occassion. Can't imagine the stress of having to deal with dependent care at 89 years old.... Amazing that it didn't kill him years ago (stress heart attack or nervous breakdown).

I dont appreciate this action but we have a neighbor couple in their 70s. The wife is too much loud and use abusive words to her husband everyday. Dont know how he tolerate her but am afraid oneday he could take wrong step like this story.

Familiarity breeds contempt. .. Sometimes! .. When people start to get on your nerves it is best to get away from them, at least, for a while. .. If you still can't be around them, you have to look into the possibility that you just dislike them or can't stand them. .. In THAT case, divorce is a viable option. .. Or, separate cities.

Our neighbor's wife likes to gamble the family's grocery money on Pachinko - we occasionally hear the husband chasing her around the house - obviously beating her up. I'm sorry to say - we don't particularly care for her (rude, greedy, bitchy), so we just ignore the domestic abuse. She used to come up to our apt to complain about the noise from our baby (what noise?), opening, closing our doors too loudly, walking too loudly. My wife just responded - "Can you not make so much noise when your husband is beating you up?" Never saw her again. Their arguments (aside from the beatings) make for some incredibly funny content - we actually look forwards to their domestic disputes - better than TV - can't make this stuff up!
One night we heard her threaten to leave - the husband said "go ahead" and she did - funny thing was we heard him lock the door behind her. Apparently she wandered around the neighborhood all nite long (forget to take her pachinko money with her) and was back in the apt the next day - eventually. Oh well...

I dont wanna sound sarcastic But if they were married for a Long time you figured they would be use to each other. put up with one another for that Long. this is a strange case because the married couple is usually NEVER This old when something like this happpens.
Very SAD story
