@educator 60, I think that the point i was trying to make is that the penal system should terminate his life pretty quickly, how ever it is undertaken, lethal injection, hanging, etc. this is one sick individual.
dd22dd
He had accomplices and he was involved in organ trafficking business.
sensei258
They said on the news that he's from Hachioji, where I live. They showed his kokosei picture, and the idea that he may have been bullied jumped immediately to mind.

Does anybody remember the hit song and video for "Too Much Blood" by the Rolling Stones? It mentions a man who took his girlfriend up to his apartment, decapitated her and stuffed the other body parts in the fridge. Then he was seen at night burying the bones. Other gruesome acts, mostly from horror movies are mentioned and this lady watching TV has a freaky breakdown. Also, those who think Mick Jagger can't dance really need to see this video!

@Silvafan
A professional killer isn't going to leave the bodies of his victims to rot and eventually be discovered in his own abode. He would have to be the world's least skilled professional killer to do that.
Here's my theory; the guy is a twisted, sadistic, mentally ill nutcase.
Luddite
No, not usually. Stop conflating violence and murder with mental illness, people with a MH problem are more likely to be victims than perpetrators.
Of all the UK serial killers I can think of; Nilson, Shipman, the Wests, Ireland et al (it's a big list), I can only think of Ian Brady and Peter Sutcliffe as ones that were diagnosed with a mental illness.
Tony W.
I think smithinjapan has it right, as he usually does, this man is a seriously mentally sick, ruthless psychopath preying on people's own problems to his own advantage. He's got the lot!
Silvafan
Sounds like a hired killer or murder.inc crew member. Usually when people read stories like this, they culprits tend to have ties to organized crime.
I wonder if he really lived there. It could have been a stash house or a workspace.
sensei258
How in tha hell does one pack so many bodies into that tiny apartment?
Roberto Carlos Anaya
I never imagined that things will happen in Japan :'(
pacint
Fine with things as they are now. Murder, etc are most commonly done be people that have a connection(family, friends, acquaintance) to the victim/s.
Most of those murderers don't have a history of priors or troubles, so no red flags till ... Whaaam.
Strangerland
Yes they are
No it’s not.
No you don’t.
Can you people try to keep your posts within some semblance of reality rather than posting emotional rhetoric not based in fact?

OR, "Sparky", we could introduce Absolute Surveillance (絶対監視) and prevent those heinous crimes against humanity to happen in the first place, by culling the corruption when the signs are there, not the results. Of course, responsible state security will have to know an immense amount of information about you, me, serial killers, blackmailers and those deviant youths without any work and outside education. But they would not act unless the surveilled person is showing threat to the society. It comes down to a choice on fundamental level: "Do I prefer my own phantom feeling of privacy and well-being over the safety of others?". I wish I had heard everyone answer it once...
Sparky Santos
Obviously, this killer is mentally unwell. Article suggests he acted to assist suicides at first. I doubt he’ll ever leave prison, or an insane asylum.
What would be actually useful for society is to prevent others being this isolated from their community in such a manner they prey on other fringe members. I don’t know how to trigger empathy in others. I hope mental professionals can help marginalized people to avoid losing their humanity.

According to wiki, Japan has an intentional homicide rate of 0.31/100,000, which works out at 395 killings per year. The UK has an intentional homicide rate of 0.92, which works out at 594 killings per year.
Neither country has a particularly high murder rate compared to some other countries, and this kind of thing is not 'the norm' in either country.
But before you start making ridiculous claims about the relative rarity of sick killers in the UK, cast your mind back to Ian Brady & Myra Hindley; Harold Shipman; Peter Sutcliffe; Fred & Rosemary West. These are just the ones that come immediately to mind; there are many others.
If you find Japanese society amazing, you must find the UK totally gobstopping.
Daniel Naumoff
Like Japan, such things are very rare in the UK, but they do happen. I
hope that one day we can find an answer as to what makes a person do
That is the difference. They are not rare in Japan. In UK you have crime: mugging, hired killers, robberies, drunken assaults etc. Such things happen very rarely and the culprits are mighty insane. But that is a norm for the killer in Japan.
In Japan, you have this kind of case monthly. But this precise case is actually new - the amount of victims tops anything before in such cases. Japanese society DOES NOT stop to AMAZE...
Ex_Res
This has echo's of something similar which happened at Cranley Gardens in North London in the early 1980's.
I remember it well as I lived close by at that time.
Like Japan, such things are very rare in the UK, but they do happen. I hope that one day we can find an answer as to what makes a person do such things.

Hope you have complete database of your neighbours!

A message was posted on the woman's Twitter account on Sept 20 saying she was "looking for someone who will die with me." The message said she "wants to die, but is scared of dying alone."
Twitter needs to stop offering itself as a platform for suicide notes.
KaYa
Japan apparently has the loneliest society on earth. Yoir neighbor could be a serial killer and you won't find it out till too late.
Wolfpack
It is obvious to anyone paying attention that human nature is essentially immutable subject at the margins only to the glacially show influences of evolution. But don’t tell that to a Lefty - they are convinced they can bend human nature to their will. Yet serial killers exist in the safe gun free countries like Japan.
Wolfpack
Actually if this guy in Zama is assisting people in their deaths/ suicides he is exactly like Kevorkian. Just because in some countries this practice is approved by government there is no material difference. Given that so many are involved it will be interesting to learn more about the circumstances of this case.
Daniel Naumoff
No, "Jason Santana", it is a reference to its precise. geographical. location.
Daniel Naumoff
This is new. The last one was an insane scum who murdered his family and burned down the house. This time, 9 bodies over years. No one knew, suspected, did not care. Shall we reset the countdown? No need, the world already did so.
Luddite
On the news they interviewed numerous neighbours who said there was a horrible smell from his flat, but no one appeared to have approached him, the landlord or the police about it. Terrible.
Apparently Shiraishi has confessed to mudering nine people since he moved in the flat in late August. That's a rapid murder rate.
Jason Santana
"The apartment is located near the U.S. Army's Camp Zama."' What is this suppose to mean? This is somehow a reference that this event is related to the Army base?
Hirokazu Kora
I wonder why his neighbors or the families of the other 8 victims didn't notice this and report to the police?
Nerakai
@nakanoguy I guess it, dismembering bodies, was for the convenience of storing the remains until you find a safe and relatively easy way to dispose those bodies. Keeping the dead body without dismembering would take too much space and make it hard to move them. He might be a helper for people who want to finish their lives.
Disillusioned
Why is this even in the article? The whole of Zama is near the US base. Is it just a little snipe at the US forces in Japan? There is no connection between the US base and the Japanese mass-murderer. It is totally irrelevant and should be removed from the article.
Brian Wheway
Once he's been charged, appeared in court, a verdict reached, sentence passed, strait to the electric chair, this guy is a waste of human resources.
WA4TKG
I believe this building is directly across from my old apartment. I’d be interested to know. Straight down the hill from Sobudaimae Station, OdaKyu.
Was probably killing people while I was living threre three years ago.
Iriya; 1Cho’me.
kurisupisu
Many people go missing in Japan every year. This is just a lucky break for the J cops.
Giveme_abreak
Not everyone who smiles at you are nice... this creep is a serial killer.
Luddite
Of course he was. He wasn't going to walk around bearing his teeth at people.
This reminds me of the Dennis Neilson murders.
Matthew Simon
Wow, sounds like a serial killer. Also does not Twitter have suicide prevention methods in place when people post death wish messages?
papigiulio
The neighbors complained that the area around the house was reeking like rotten garbage.
The police caught a lucky break catching him on camera, if they didn't how many more would he be able to have killed.
Nine bodies. Nine people killed and dismembered. This guy is sick to the bone.
u_s__reamer
Because our brain size and resulting superior intelligence have created complex cultures culminating in modern urban environments humans are capable of far worse killings than chimps who live in simple jungle habitats. Why are so many humans in denial over our shared biological origins and the manifest reality that we humans are the most dangerous animals on the planet? Even powerful political leaders who have never killed with their own hands have, nevertheless, been responsible for countless deaths. No punishments devised by us can ever change "human nature".
smithinjapan
It sounds to me like people went to this guy to escape their misery and he was willing to kill them, probably in exchange for money. Or, maybe he is indeed even sicker still and they met to talk and he killed them because he's a serial killer and they were easy targets; him being able to rationalize it because he wanted to die.
In any case, even if he was 'helping' he's no Kevorkian. It'll be interesting to hear more of the details. Were they ALL suicidal and looking for others? Or was that just the last victim and the rest he flat out murdered?
Rhaegar
Geeez, is "suspicion of disposing of bodies" the only thing police here can use to arrest someone?? How about ammmm lets see here... stretching things I know but how about simply "Suspicion of murder and dismembering of nine people!!!" I think thats more to the point is it not?
nakanoguy01
ok, i can kinda get the killing part but the dismembering part? why?!?! just the thought of it makes me wanna puke. and then keeping it all in your house. the smell must have been overwhelming. sounds more like dahmer than lecter to me.
Wakarimasen
Chimps also kill to eat. Has anywhere reported whether he was possibly a cannibal also? Online suicide site? This things are allowed?
Civitas Sine Suffragio
Truly, man is a fallen beast capable of great depravity. Not even chimps are this bad.
Goodlucktoyou
Why do people want to commit suicide together. Surely it.a personal.thing.. Life.is great.
I saved woman in hawaii before. She just needed somebody yo help regain self confidence, not asdist.in death.
dcog9065
Jesus, 9 bodies? Is this guy part of some bizarre suicide group who obliges those who wish to die? Or is he a serial killer who has targeted random people?
Disillusioned
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried to be. Chimpanzees and other primates only kill for territory, defense or dominance disputes. It is also very rare for these disputes to end in death. They do not kill to satisfy an inner macabre mental illness and they definitely don't collect heads in freezers! I think you owe the chimpanzees an apology.
Gorramcowboy
Can't even imagine the horror.
Let's hope justice will be swift.
Monozuki
9 bodies! What a psychotic incident! Hope police shed light on the case ASAP.
u_s__reamer
It's obvious that the killer is sick and that there is no way to deter such individuals from carrying their heinous deeds. As primates we all share the killer instinct of our closest relative, the chimpanzee. Although the murder rate in Japan is low, when such disturbed individuals do strike, they don't do things by halves.

"The media is playing this down, as usual."
cant window dress this one.
Disillusioned
This is a mass-murder who cuts up bodies. He had two heads in the freezer! This goes far beyond creepy and into the macabre! He's Kanagawa's Dr. Lecter!
Yubaru
Talk about a house of horrors.
gogogo
Wow seriously morbid

creepy
