Police in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, said Monday they have arrested a 92-year-old man on a charge of attempted murder after he strangled his 83-year-old wife with a necktie.
According to police, Yonezo Masuda strangled his wife Kazuko at their home at around 6 p.m. Sunday and then called police, TV Asahi reported.
Police found Kazuko unconscious in the first-floor bedroom. She was taken to hospital and remains in a coma.
Masuda was quoted by police as saying his wife had been in great pain because of illness and he felt sorry for her.

He loved her so much that he was willing to go to jail and live a life of loneliness without her. Imagine how terrible he felt while strangling the one he loved, so he could stop her suffering. Just normal life can be a horror.

I was thinking weird reasons why he would strangle her until I got to he last line in the article mentioning she was in great pain. Just wish some other family member could have been there to intervene. We read these short accounts always asking other questions. There always seems to be not information provided.

Tough life in Japan for old folks, with few family members left in the furosato & little social support.

Not sure how strangling made the situation better
