93-year-old man arrested for strangling wife in nursing home

How sad.........

A really sad story. For both to be 93 and to have been married all of these years, what a tremendously sorrowful way for both to end their lives. The wife at her husband's hands and the husband in a few short years having killed his wife of so many years. Truly sad.

It is not lost on me that they just moved into this facility in December and that they both lived in the same room in this facility. I have to wonder if this move and the circumstances surrounding it was the trigger for the husband doing what he did. There are probably facts that we don't know that contributed to his doing what he did. Not excusing it, just noting the timing.

may be nursing home is not a place they both wanted to stay, it is hard for elderly to adjust to a new surrounding, out of their comfort zone, anything could happen. Sorry for both of them.

My cousin is currently taking care of his Father who is very elderly. His Father has said that "If you put me in a nursing home, I'll die." He's very fortunate that his son is taking care of him AND holding down a full-time job. Is Japan at the point where there aren't enough children to take care of their elderly?

If it was legal in Japan, Physician-assisted suicide lessens suffering for the family and friends of terminally ill patients. Terminally ill people should have the right to end their lives on their own terms. If someone knows they are going to be in pain for the rest of their life, they should be allowed to end it while they are still physically able. It’s simply a reassurance for the patient and a way out of needless pain and suffering. The ability to be in control of your own mind and body is an essential human right terminally ill people are often not granted.

Ahem, Smith in Japan. Seriously? Do you have to venture into each and every subject? Are you the authority on ALL SUBJECTS?

Pretty hard to guess as to motive. Maybe she was sick and he wanted to end her suffering. Maybe he felt he had put up with her for too long and wanted to end his own. Maybe he was senile. Maybe he is evil and knows he won't get any punishment. Just impossible to say without more detail, but the fact that he is refusing to give any motive kind of points to the 'evil' route, otherwise it would have said he was senile, probably, or that his wife had been suffering, or something.

You don't even know but you are venturing a guess. Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe..... Yikes so many maybes...Sometimes when we don't have an idea, we don't venture into maybe's but just remain quiet.

Very sad at so many levels.

I hope my wife does the same thing to me if I ever get into a catatonic state.

A BIG problem with modern medicine is it is keeping us alive longer than mother nature intended & we are witnessing the consequences around the world, and more & more often the actual ending of our lives & loved ones gets rather ugly & messy.

Its only recently many are realizing this & are starting to deal with HOW/WHEN one is allowed to die............

We still have a long way to go & the end...........will often be messy & with lots of suffering

To slag off Japan for having a crime of this nature shows dreadful lack of intelligence. Inhumanity and cruelty is world-wide, and a part of every culure on earth.

We don't know WHAT the truth is. It could be a form of assisted suicide, it could be a fit of anger (though if you made it to 93, without killing each other, the odds of that are low), it could even be during a bout of Alzheimer's confusion. We Don't Know.

It's very sad, and it's also difficult to imagine the average 93-year-old having the physical strength to kill someone like that. Japanese oldies are in a league of their own.

They were both 93 years old ..... Suppose once husband went to war and survived and came back for just want hold her and feel her between his arms! It's beyond sadness. Rather feels hopeless left in big hole. ..."... Sometimes single people dream of find tru love and age together then live in eternal happiness. But this news , at least for this couple end of their love story didn't lead as younger singles dream once in a while! What's going on our society? Is this just happens in Japan? Or around glove? Where does l love goes once a man kills only a love one at age 93 years old? Sorry! Toooo many questions.

Welcome to the Living Dead Society. I for one, am not at all surprise. Here I deal with the people who has no place for other human beings, no sense of common humanity thus they are unable to grasp loving kindness from anyone... Here, in Japan, there is so much to do and needed to be done. But all focus and every effort goes into the hate and politics...

My guess is they either agreed or HE decided they couldn't live in place like this, so murder suicide, but the guy either couldn't or didn't have time to finish the plan..........
