This incident highlights a few problems in Japanese society. Obviously mental health and the problem of social recluses and addicted gamers, but also, fire safety and overcrowding of workplaces. Hopefully, the death of these 35 talented people will result in addressing these issues and changes will be made although, I won't be holding my breath waiting for changes.

This is all fire dept + gov policy fault !!!!
Fire sprinklers are needed!!!!!
Japan government needs laws to require Fire Extinguisher in small buildings too. Small buildings are as dangerous to fires as big ones.

But, this building stored large amounts of paper, films, paints, inks and solvents plus, it was overcrowded. That kind of business should have been under strict fire control regardless of the size of the building. All the flammables should have been stored in a fireproof safe and due to the high fire danger there should also have been fire doors installed. I worked in signs for twenty years prior to coming to Japan and the safety regulations for storing flammables are very strict, regardless of the size of the building.

What do the safety regulations say about bringing in jerry cans of gas, spreading them around and lighting them? What's the safe way to do that?

I wonder if they have fire extinguishers at ready and whether the employees knew how to work it.
