You don't go free with a mental illness. Usually you are sent to a mental institution for an indefinite time, which is in no way better than prison time.

No amount of psychological evaluation ot analysis is going to change the facts of premediation planning and execution. But it's nice of the J-justice system to offer it. I believe the Unification Church is a cancer on this planet. but I do not condone muder.

Standard practice to avoid retrials.

He will of course be found guilty... Which he is. But he won't care.

He made his point clear to Japan and it's leaders.

His story is so sad. No excuse for his actions, surely, but should a full mental exam show him of diminished capacity, I hope he receives treatment. And, no, he will never go free which ether way they decide.

He is not insane.

But in what country can you be on national TV walking up to someone and shooting them in the back, and not be found guilty?

Probably in most countries if you're found not competent to stand trial. In my country in such a case, you'd be locked up in a state mental institution that has more walls and barbed wire than a regular prison.

You will lose your mind when you watch your own mother being SUCKED into a scam manipulated and taken to the cleaners by scammers, of course he is angry, very damn angry to the point of being in insane or he will not put himself and his family thru this mess.

I hope Japan justice system will see what was happening to this man and his mother and take that into consideration while sentencing him.

All very true. But in what country can you be on national TV walking up to someone and shooting them in the back, and not be found guilty?

Nah. “ Evaluate “ all you want. He’s just a murderer. And a stupid one.

Excuse me, my fellow JT readers, the amount of downvotes to my post is incomprehensible.

a)Even if we all know the guy’s sane, the psychiatric evaluation is needed, I know that.(duh)

b)He took the life of a man who had nothing to do with his family’s situation. Excuse me, but that’s stupid.

c)If he wanted to send a message, there were better ways to do it. If that wasn’t his goal, then he’s even more stupid.

d)He destroyed his life, and(!) is causing endless pain to his own family and to the victim’s family.

LDP should give him a medal for making everyone vote LDP as a sympathy vote, then lock him up

Silver pill the only option

@Redstorm Not a good example when they do that to criminals period in america. Do you call the attempted Ronald Reagan assassination a lynching? Poor example what happened to Abe is very close to what happened when Reagan got shot both suspects waiting in a crowd, there was no lynching!!!!

when they did that in America with black people it was called lynching. Thankfully we how have a justice system and everyone gets their day in court.

Having a justice system is never a waste of taxpayer money.

If he is sane now, he will be insane by the time the Japanese justice system has tried him.

So they now saying he was mind controlled by deep state....

It will work out ok for him one way or another with a lawyer

Very well, if we are investigating the mental competency of Abe's murderer, then surely we need some kind of assessment of how valid his belief was that the LDP was complicit with the Unification Church?

Let's have the facts. If the LDP is bought-and-paid-for by the Moonies, then the man is mentally competent and should swing. Then other questions need to be asked about influence between the cult and the LDP.

If the LDP has nothing to do with the Unification Church, then the killer was delusional, and some kind of mitigation would be appropriate.

But we need facts.

Yeah, I’m with you. There are far too many readers whose hatred for Abe blinds them to the fact that he was murdered in cold blood. Whatever Abe’s sins were, he did not deserve that.

… couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you.

Well a daily update, on the case is well appreciated. It makes me feel part of the justice system.

But objectively ascertaining a defendant's mental state when a crime is committed is difficult and can be affected by factors such as the examiner's expertise. So the examiner is not really qualified?

I know it’s a percentage thing it’s maybe 30% Abe’s fault for being there 70% shooters fault, really very difficult to legally work out.

So he could fake mental illness and go free?
