A 66-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault after he stabbed a 31-year-old female employee at a 7-Eleven store in Tokyo's Taito Ward on Sunday.

According to police, the suspect, Takeru Norimura, entered the 7-Eleven Taito Nihonzutsumi 2-chome store at around 3:30 p.m. He pulled out a kitchen knife, threatened the woman and demanded money.

Another employee rushed out of the store and alerted police at a nearby koban. Police detained Norimura walking a short distance away from the store, with 50,000 yen he had taken from the cash register.

Police said that the employee was stabbed in the left side of her lower abdomen while trying to stop Norimura. She was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition on Monday.

Norimura has admitted to the charges and was quoted by police as saying, "I didn’t have any money.”

"while trying to stop Norimura"

What do they teach these employees? That you should fight off armed men for your measly wages?

She is very brave for trying to stop him, but why risk your life in this situation?

50,000 yen. Risking life to protect it. Risking murdering someone to get it.

So totally not worth it for either of them.

These days, as far as I know, most of 7-Eleven convenience stores open around-the-clock despite it's name. So I thought it's unusual that the robbery occurred at around 3:30 p.m. I mean this kind of crimes usually happens between midnight and early morning. At any rate, it was lucky that the woman employee's physical damage was not fatal.

Convenience store staff training 101: Give them the money. It's insured! This stupid woman nearly lost her life over 500 bucks of insured money. Stoopid!

Convenience store emploees been required(years) to hand over the Cash and do nothing else.

Wonder if he will get canned for going against company policy.

We had 3 robberies in 3 outlets over 2yrs, zero made it into the media.

Absolutely pointless act... those stores have cameras everywhere... just give him the cash and offer him to also have a beer on the tab ...he will be caught 99% anyway and all those stores are insured .

Horrible, I hope the best for her.

That conbini was my favorite spot for sandwiches every morning after my run, while in Tokyo for 2 weeks.

Juyoh, down the street, is a nice little cheap hotel.
