A 66-year-old man and his 63-year-old wife were fatally stabbed in their home in Yokohama on Saturday, and their 30-year-old son-in-law, who police suspect killed them, apparently hanged himself at his home next door.
According to police, the bodies of Takashi Hagiwara and his wife Noriko were found lying on their futons on the second floor of their house in Nishi Ward at around 4:30 a.m., Kyodo News reported. Fifteen minutes earlier, a security alarm in the house had gone off and the couple’s daughter called 110.
Police said the victims had been stabbed by a knife which was left beside their bodies. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. Police found the couple’s son-in-law, Fumitaka Nagai, hanging from a balcony at his home which is adjacent to the victims' house. He was declared dead at the scene.
Nagai’s wife and their two children were staying with her parents and were not injured, police said. Nagai was living in the adjacent house by himself.

never ever live next door to your in-laws. There must be a novel of drama behind this terrible crime.

It's problematic anywhere it happens in the world.
Well, it happens regularly, but there are also 130 million people in Japan, and the incidents you here are for that entire population, so it's not surprising you would hear about them. That said, it's actually much rarer for this to happen to someone in Japan than in almost any other country in the world. Japan is one of the safest countries on the planet.

This is Problematic in Japan. Not rare at all.

At least the children are not hurt.

Not very unusual at all here. The husband probably had no job or money and the wife’s parents bought them a house next to theirs. The wife got pissed about money and maybe alcoholism and moved back with her parents. He got pissed and took revenge out on the parents who probably told their daughter to divorce him.

It seems rather obvious that she moved out with the kids, away from her husband. He probably blamed her parents. But, no one will know until she talks to the cops. The story needs some more meat.
NOMINATION
She was staying with her parents.

Very rare and unusual here, that the killer suspect who then hung himself has been immediately declared dead at the scene. Normally, it’s always reported as stop of heartbeat and breathing, showing no consciousness or signs of life and then everyone is taken to a hospital and declared dead quite a long time afterwards. I wonder the difference of criteria applied in this case.

Something here doesn't make sense. Was Mr Nagai the son or was the wife staying with his parents?
