An elementary school girl was slashed in the neck by a 14-year-old boy as she walked home from school on Tuesday afternoon in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. The girl, who is in sixth grade, told police that someone came up behind her and slashed her in the neck with a knife and then ran away, Fuji TV reported. The girl managed to make it home and her parents called police.

The girl was taken to hospital. Doctors said the slash was 10 centimeters long and one centimeter deep, but her injury is not life-threatening.

A pedestrian who saw the boy run away gave police a description.

The boy was taken into custody at his home where they found several knives in his room. Police said he has admitted to attacking the girl, whom he did not know, and quoted him as saying he meant to kill her. He also said he just wanted to kill someone and it didn't matter who.

She is one lucky girl! I hope she FULLY recovers!

Yet another one of the legion of kids here who need help, having more than likely been showing signs of it for years, and NO ONE, no parents, teachers, or whomever, thought enough to do something.

All were probably like "he's a little off. but he'll grow out of it!" and then we get the next Ted Bundy or whatever!

This is very shocking and disturbing news, and the reasoning is just as bad. There must be more to this story and hope we are provided further development details. I with a speedy recovery for the young girl and the best for the parents.

hope we are provided further development details.

Dont hold your breathe, further details occur here about as often as finding a snowball in hell!

Lock him up for good.

Well stated.

Lock him up for good.

And don't try to get to the reason behind the action. Just let him rot. Am I right, or am I right?

This kid must have wonderful parents. A murdering psychopath at 14.

Police said he has admitted to attacking the girl, whom he did not know, and quoted him as saying he meant to kill her. But he gave no reason.

Another one...

It's good he was caught before he could actually kill someone or hurt more people.

Now he must receive psychiatric treatment or be kept away from society if incurable.

at his home where they found several knives in his room

And no family member thought this to be strange????

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Holy jeebus, 10 cm long cut but she survived, lucky girl but she will have to overcome a trauma.

he meant to kill her.

I wonder if he knew her...neighbors? going to the same elementary school? 14 years old and already thinking about killing someone, someone must've seen some signs.

To parents and teachers: if a child expresses hatred to people or animals, kills animals, collects weapons - DANGER SIGN, deal with it! Parents need to take an interest in their child and guide them on right and wrong. Clearly in this case the family is dysfunctional, fact.

Get well soon if you read me gal.

As for the boy... locking him up is not the solution.. he needs help, where are the parent? Maybe too busy working or playing pokemon go.

Wow, a young psychopath. Because he is underage, nothing will happen to him. But chances are there will be more victims later. Tricky situation, I do not claim to have a perfect answer.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Because he is underage, nothing will happen to him.

Yeah because that’s how the real world works.

The sound of a thousand face palms is heard around the world.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Lock him up for good.

I agree, but we all know he will be out and about after a year in juvi. Name protected as well so he can attack again.

All juvenile's have their cases sealed in most countries.

Yah, I know. It's a shame, really.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

And no family member thought this to be strange????

Well, when you go down to Toys R Us and browse the military weapon and equipment toy section for a while you might begin to realize that male fascination with weapons is neither new nor strange, just completely sad that any company is allowed to make money off it.

I had quite a real knife collection myself beginning even before my teen years. My first two knives were given to me by my own mother, starting at 7. In my teens I labored for hours making a sword. I had throwing stars and practiced with them. I had a powerful pump air gun. I had bows and arrows and am still an amazingly good shot. I even had some guns later. Frankly, collecting weapons itself is barely even a red flag if its a psycho killer you are looking for. But that in combination with something like, say, a murder movie/TV show DVD collection? Okay, NOW its time to worry.

He will be detained at a juvenile detention center. The length of detention will be decided by the progress for him to change.

Yes, for a while, and then he will be out. As I said, nothing will happen to him.

Back in 1997 the whole country was on edge after 14-year-old "Sakakibara Seito" left the decapitated head of an 11-year-old boy at the gate of a junior high school. Police investigators chased their own tails for several weeks until they finally made an arrest. The perpetrator, now age 36, was "rehabilitated" and lives among us, with a new identity. Cases like this are disturbing to the extreme. Fortunately they are few in number.

Educator 60: You da educator. Thanks.

I hope the girl makes a complete recovery. Feel bad for her because this is a traumatic situation. The suspect should be executed because the world would be a better place without someone like this.

It is shocking that something like this could ever occur in Japan because Japan along with other East Asian Countries like Mainland China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc are known for being one of the safest if not the safest areas in the world. It is understood that Japan and the other East Asian Countries are safer than most if not all Western Countries, Africa and the Middle East. One would think Japan is the type of place someone would go in order to not be concerned regarding becoming a victim street crime.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Japan, now a day, lacks role models for children to lookup and want to be like one of them. And child-rearing is as bad as before by majority parents and all teachers seem bad. Japan needs soul searching now!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

There is a deep underlying problem here.

He should be kept in a young offender's institute.

Until police are finish their inquiries.

He should not be allowed back out onto the street.

He injured that young girl, she was very lucky it could have been more serious.

He could have severed an nerve and paralyzed her for life.

He has to stay in a secure unit till he is old enough to stand trial

for attempted murder. on his own admission, he told the police he was trying to kill her.

That is more serious , it was premeditated.

Too close to home for me.

I heard the sirens and saw the patrol cars scrambling to the park. Fortunately the ER hospital is visible from the park where the attack happened.

The boy is in my child's class. And no, the family is not dysfunctional and no, the young lad was not showing signs of being a psychopath. Yesterday was test week so no after school clubs (otherwise he would have been in the school club as he usually was). Obviously had a lot going on in his head and made some really really bad choices. But with good help there is no reason he can't turn into a good solid man.

you keyboard warriors calling for life terms and execution need to grow the heck up and think what if it was one of your nieces or nephews that did this terrible thing. Would you rush out and buy the gallows rope then too?

beutiful sunny fall day here in Hachinohe too. Take care everyone.

Britain has had Gun amnesties loads of times. guns and knives had to be handed in to police. If they search your person , car, or your work bag you are immediately arrested. and jailed. if they find either. But things could change if Nigel Farage gets into power. he spoke before he would lift the ban on having guns. Another fool who listens to America too much. London is becoming the vassal state of America, There is more stabbings in London and Manchester now than was registered in past years. And to be honest if they get the Brexit they want so bad, England will be a country back on its own. Wales, Scotland are pushing for Independence now. and it will come ,Northern Ireland will end up as one country. We will all leave England then they are finished. as a country.they will become the 51st state of America.

You seem to know little of what happens in juvenile detention centers.

So tell us about your deep knowledge about what happens in juvenile detention centers. What exactly is their track record of turning psychopaths into into harmless citizens?

Nothing to see here, move along, they’ll tell us. Japan is one of the safest places to be.........la di da di da.

Japan IS one of the safest places to be. That does of course not mean that it is 100% safe.

But like clockwork, the Japan bashing crowd chimes in every time a crime is reported.

"slashed her in the neck"

"meant to kill her"

Exactly. Anytime some psycho who stabs his spouse, parent, a quaintance, stranger, etc in the neck and says "I didn't mean to kill them", they are totally full of crap.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Yah, I know. It's a shame, really.

Really? So crimes committed at a young age should follow a child until their deaths?

There is a very good reason why society deems it appropriate for CHILDREN to have their records sealed, it's to prevent them from having to deal with people who think like this all the time!

The perpetrator, now age 36, was "rehabilitated" and lives among us, with a new identity. Cases like this are disturbing to the extreme. Fortunately they are few in number.

The loony who tried to kill George Harrison on Dec. 30, 1999 was 'rehabilitated' from believing that the Beatles were 'witches' and that God sent him to dust them off. He is out on the streets again. George's widow and son Dhani don't like that result at all.

WilliB: There’s no bashing going on, but a whole lotta slashing. Carry on however drinking the safety country Kool Aid. The rest of us will continue to exercise an appropriate level of caution commensurate with the various degrees of danger that lurk hidden behind the placid facade.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

He needs to be in a facility with security.

Psychopathy is not curable, there is no rehabilitation.

Lucky girl, to have survived.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Very fortunate that this girl is still alive!

That boy needs locking up in a psychiatric hospital for the rest of his life. I'm sorry. He might be a minor but he is clearly a danger and a risk to the public. Intervene before he actually does kill someone in the future!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It's fortunate that the girl survived, but the attack will leave scars, both physical and psychological. Speaking of which, the boy seriously needs some form of counselling. Something must have happened in his life for him to turn out this way. Abuse from parents or siblings, extensive bullying, something like that. Something that has gone on for long enough to harm him emotionally and psychologically. This isn't a simple case of him needing to be taught right from wrong. By his age he should already know that, but something has clearly happened to him to cause him to not care if what he does is wrong.

It's also very troubling that he has a collection of knives in his room. He can't have bought them himself, surely. So one would think that he probably got them elsewhere, not from any form of store but from a person. Tracking down the source of the knives could help with this case. What if the person(s) providing the knives also put the idea of killing into his head? It might not have been intentional, but they still need to be held accountable all the same.

I see no reason that the boy can't be rehabilitated, other than the fact that mental health care in Japan seems to be questionable at best. If he was able to receive good counselling, then he should reform, but I fear he won't get the level of counselling he needs, if any at all.

All juvenile's have their cases sealed in most countries.

Yes, that is correct, but it's more about protecting the parents' identity than protecting the kid's identity.

Fox Sora Winters, a rational comment, I agree though as I can’t see details in the article as to the nature of the”knife collection” it is not clear whether the writers are over emphasising that element. Other children undoubtedly need to be kept safe from him and he certainly needs help.

Psychopath? I don’t know the child and am not qualified to assess any more I suspect than are the majority of posters on this site.

As to the poor girl, she also will need help and support to overcome the physical and psychological trauma of the attack.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

zichi:

There are plenty of online sites detailing what happens in juvenile detention centers at least make some effort

.... you still do not explain how "some effort" is different from my simple comment that nothing will happen to him.

before a simple outright dismissal and your qualified skill that the child is a psychopath?

A 14 year old trying to murder someone? How do you call that? I suppose you think the James Bulger case was also normal child behaviour?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Tragic for the girl. I hope she makes a swift and complete recovery.

There are a lot of morons here that think juvenile detention is a walk in the park and/or that a 14 year old has the cognitive capacity of an adult. Repugnant.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Its true to say parents don't offer emotional support for their kids from the very early years in the childs life. No comforting for when things go wrong, such as being bullied. They are instead told to suck it up. This doesn't make the child stronger, quite the opposite. Feeling that nobody cares for you, especially your parents, must be hell on earth. Especially boys, boys are made to be completely inferior to girls who get all the care they need, including emotional support, unlike the boys who get nothing but to suck it up. And you wonder why this stuff happens. If anything, I hope this boy and all boys, get care and support throughout their childhood. Bashing boys to the ground and making them feel uncared for and second to girls all the time, as to have a impact on society. Boys and men need caring love and affection also, but women especially and parents forget about that, don't they.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

This boy needs help so hopefully he will get it fast. He may have psychological problems such an early-onset schizophrenia etc.

BTW according to NHK news tonight, the "knives" were box-cutters and the girl was cut with one as well.

THe way the article reads it suggests something totally different! It also explains a bit why parents might not be aware of something being wrong. He had a number of box-cutters in his house!

Speedy recovery for the girl... and come on, Japan is facing difficult times; hikikomoris, alienated youths who randmonly attack others; selfish individuals like the Yua child abuse case. What's happening in Japanese society? Nutjobs like this boy expected more.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Of course he is a psychopath. He pre-meditated the cold-blooded murder of a stranger. Thankfully, his plan was not successful.

This was not some childish prank. Nor was it some poor decision of a teen-aged mind borne from inexperience. He didn't steal a car for a joy ride. He didn't shoplift a smartphone. He didn't slash someone's tires.

He felt the need to murder an innocent stranger. He thought about it beforehand. He most likely researched which location would be most likely to be fatal. (The neck) And, he carried out the deed with what appeared to be a complete absence of remorse or guilt.

His actions were that of a psychopath. And, as others have mentioned, there is no cure for psychopathy.

I think that a teenage boy having a box cutter collection is even more creepy and worrisome.

I'm no expert but I do know that psychopathy is characterised by calm, meticulous behaviour. Best to leave the final diagnosis to others, I think.

Zichi:

> During the period of juvenile detention instead of nothing happening like you have claimed he will be reviewed in what is the best to alter and improve his personality has well as making him understand the seriousness of his crime.

Every 14-year old I know understands the seriousness of murder.

If you seriously believe that a bunch of social workers and psychologists can "alter and improve a personality", I want to sell you a large tower in Paris.

But yes, I understand it is comforting to believe in fairy tales.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

He also said he just wanted to kill someone and it didn't matter who.

It doesn't matter who?

Well, i'll make you a deal. Start with the person you see in the mirror.

After you kill him, you can kill anyone in the world that you want.

How does that sound?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

It's scary that someone so young can exhibit such a cruel mindset. and as somebody that grew up in the inner city of Chicago, it's practically heartbreaking, but this kind of mindset happens all over the world. Yes this kid is still a teenager, and some believe that he can be rehabilitated, but I think he needs to be in custody, far and away from other people, until it has shown that he can somehow be rehabilitated. I personally don't believe that such I jacked up and dangerous mind could ever be rehabilitated. That little kid is just plain evil. And for the record, yes I have 1 relative who is currently incarcerated and had a similar mindset, except he just liked to rob and take things from people. I tried to reach out to him, and saw that there was really no hope for him. He just got off too much on taking and hurting from other people, just like this young man.

Get the kid treated for mental illness.,,
