So, just like other former military related crimes, the fact that he was once in the military/SDF contributes to the fact that he committed these horrible crimes?
He only served one year, and that was now over 15 years ago, how much does anyone want to bet it was for mental-health reasons?

That's one cold-blooded SOB, if he doesn't deserve the death penalty then who does

To what end? Obviously isn't a deterrent. State murder of innocents is also a problem.

He obviously had mental issues before enlisting that may or may not have been exacerbated by his one year in the SDF. Why even mention it? In fairness the news should then mention the former employer of all criminals.
Former McDonald’s burger flippers and Lawson clerks, do not bring shame to the family.

Why is it that most murders (or at least what is shown) usually revolves around family on family murders and usually its about troublesome parents. Don't these once children have no love or at least shame for the people that went through the trouble of raising them?

Point taken, and perhaps he even joined the SDF "for mental health reasons"? "Kireru" does appear to be a scary, stereotypical pattern of behavior afflicting swordless wannabe samurai types.

Some people never realize when they have pushed other people too far.
It was still very wrong of him to murder those people.

Nagging = verbal and psychological abuse. Most law enforcement don't seem to realize how much "nagging" ( ie abuse) actually contributes to physical violence. It is a form of trigger.
Not surprised that out of the 5, 3 were female.

the same sadly seems to be true in many countries. In a surprisingly high number of cases the killer is a family member, friend or acquaintance.

exact same thing happened to me. I got a divorce and moved to Kansai without killing or harming anybody. Life is good here.

He was only in the JSDF for a year nearly 20 years ago, 2001-2002? Why would the headline lead with "Ex-JSDF member"? They might as well have lead the headline with, "ex-high school student".

Killing your entire family because of nagging is absolutely unimaginable. A simple change in residence would have alleviated his problems. The murders in my opinion were committed out of years of deep psychological conflict and anger. Japan has a lot of work to do in terms of providing the proper mental health care for its society.

The accused's being an ex-SDF for over 20 years ago is irrelevant to what he did.
Yubaru
And yet when the ex-Marine killed a woman here in Okinawa didn't you make a different claim?
Scrote
Has this guy done nothing since leaving the SDF? If he has, why not mention that too?

I really have to agree with Beowulf here. This person was only in the forces for a year. And this was 16 years ago. If all the posters here were labelled with what they were doing 16 years ago, most of us would be known as 'ex-college student' or 'ex-filing clerk' etc. Irrelevant to 2018.

Truth be told, I am ALWAYS annoyed at JT and other media outlets when they try to make the association between a criminal's past work history, particularly when it's military, in making it seem as if THAT association or experience, whenever it happened, is the reason behind why they committed a crime NOW.
TigersTokyoDome
If this guy did nothing from 2002 until now, then maybe the press has nothing else to label him with. But I am sure that he was doing something for the past 16 years. If not he should have been described as unemployed guy.

concerns is one thing, being nagged is another one. Killing for that is not the right thing to do as others have said moving to a single apartment somewhere far from his family would have been a better choice and even cutting links with his family for a while too would have been a better choice.

From my experience there the first thing they have to do is talk to each other instead of trying to guess what the other ones mean or want or etc... They have to face their problems and stop running away from them. I was in Japan with a GF of 2 years relationship, I got a heat stroke and had to go to the hospital, the day after she told me she was disappointed of me and she never talked to me again !?!?!
Had another GF there we were talking having children and for my part I want to get involved in the education of them but as soon as we started to talk about such thing she told me she was the woman(be the mother) and she is the one taking care of the decisions concerning the children then she said no talking about serious topics and she stopped talking to me for 1 week... no wonder why such things happening over there they only want to talk of happy things when serious ones happening they are running away or do like they don't exist... I am sure the problem is deeper then that...
