You know, one thing not even referred to in this whole mess, is that if Harumafuji really whacked Takanoiwa over the top of his head with the karoke remote control, and caused him to receive 10 stiches, I would LOVE to know where the blood went?
Head wounds, particularly ones on the top of the head are typically very bloody, and any wound requiring 10 stitches would have had at least SOME blood on the clothes, a towel, anything, to stop any bleeding.
The whole story is still not being told, and the cops seem hell bent on charging him with something, without releasing all the evidence, or any for that fact, against him.

@yubaru
They have a %99.999 conviction rate, they don’t need evidence!

I salute the guy who brought this event to the police. There are uncouth acts going on inside stables. I hope he get a due sentencing.

My take is that Harumafuji and his camp screwed this up by not quickly and completely taking responsibility. Look at the time gap between the incident and the initial charges - seems the Takanoiwa side was waiting for appropriate contrition, which did not come. And cops getting angry is also usually a result of non-contrition.
Harumafuji probably could have scraped by if he'd turned belly-up from the get-go; instead, he's either off to jail or nack to Mongolia (or both). Let that be a lesson.

The truth isn't being told. Someone please where is the proof? The evidence? The facts?

I see a lot of hate against the mongolian wrestlers in these comments.Reminds me of the fable Vulpes alta in vinea.....

It isn't plausible really that a bare hand, remote control etc would have drawn blood or led to the bruising that Takanoiwa evidenced afterwards. There has to be more to the story as everyone has said.

I'm a little confused myself on some points here.
I would have thought that the measure of punishment is a Judges decision. If arrested he must appear before a judge in 48 hours.
Secondly, I would agree with some of the above comments, that there has to be more to this than has been reported.

Means nothing really, as the police will ONLY bring charges after they feel there is enough evidence to do so, so there are many times where there is a HUGE gap of time. This one is relatively small.
Also charges are not brought either unless someone flies a complaint, which Takanohana did, however after the complaint is filed, cops investigate, and the keystones often take forever to decide whether or not to charge anything, and many times the parties involved solve it so not charges are ever filed.
Yubaru
What the police recommend, goes to the public prosecutor, who then decides to formally arrest and charge him. Neither has been done yet.

If he is arrested, he must be presented before a Judge in 48 hours. I assume that the Judge will examine all the facts and decide the appropriate punishment if any. That is how I have always understood the procedure.
As you say, nothing has happened yet.

Let the guy retire and go home. (if he wants to)
But...TIJ and the police will take full advantage of his celebrity status and drag him through the courts.
Michael Jackson
Wrong, his celebrity status will buy him a suspended sentence, after the prosecutors office and the sumo brotherhood milk it for all its worth.
Yubaru
He has not been arrested, no official charges have been filed.

The cops aren't responsible for charging anyone with anything. But if they receive a complaint, however suspiciously late and a suspect admits to an assault that is by definition a crime.

Lizz.
Yes, what you say is true, but. what I canoot understand is, the police refered the assault to the prosecutior recommending a harsh punishment.
Surely it is a Judge who determines the punishment.
