Fraud cases targeting elderly decline but losses exceed ¥35 bil in 2018

Police detected 16,493 cases, down 9.4 percent from the previous year, and the amount swindled totaled 35.68 billion yen, down 9.6 percent, in 2018 with declines attributed to a continued crackdown on fraud, according to the NPA's preliminary report.

True, and there also be many cases in which the elderly person doesn't even know he/she was cheated. Thus, he/she would not even report it to the police at all.

And why the sudden care by the folks that run here about "fools and their money are soon parted" when over 25% of the victims refused to take the advice of the people at the bank advising them against doing the transactions?
