Should have been life. He lied all the way through and there was no contrition. This is a guy that thinks what ever he can get away with, he'll act on.

28 years sentence is too short.

Finally a little closure for the family, what a scumbag!

May Narumi Kurosaki’s grieving family and friends find solace in that justice was served, to some degree.

Best now to forget his name and always remember Hers.

I think it's not accurate to say there's a relief of closer for the grieving family because the body or remains of their daughter wasnt found for an appropriate burial and that after 28 years the so called murderer will be set free.

If he did murder her they why is it only 28 years and not life in prison ?

For taking another life, jail time should be the rest of his life. Seems fair to me.

28 years is not so bad as body was not found. He may appeal as a crazy guy...

28 years (with time off for good behavior???) is too cheap. A human life is priceless. A young lady lost her life and a family lost a loved member.

I would assume that quite a large fire would be needed to dispose of the body and would take a long time so its odd no remains were found.

Seems no one here knows the French system.

That criminal will be leaving prison in less than 20 years probably, maybe before with an electronical bracelet around his ankle.

Don't be surprised if you hear of him again for another crime. French leniency, using any lack of clue as a right to benefit the criminal but never the victims. Yes family of Naurmi is also the victim.

France needs the guillotine back..

Would it be as lenient as Japan's system though for a single murder? Sometimes you get a life sentence here and there but we would probably be underwhelmed with the sentencing given here.

For all those commenting here that 28 years in prison is too short, take a look at the Japanese legal system where Japanese killers get a much shorter sentence on most occasions! The French courts did their best to give out the 28year sentence since the case wasn’t clear cut ( was circumstantial ) from the very beginning!

I'd prefer if he'd gotten the death penalty. Unfortunately they don't have that there anymore.

You are absolutely correct! Japanese killers in Japan have been sentenced to far less years! Yet, comments here seem to indicate that the French legal system didn’t do enough…smh! The French legal system is a million times fairer than the pathetic Japanese legal system!

The bigger question is will he appeal? When will his current sentence start and is there a time limit for parole? More information needed JT! My guess is that he will appeal since no blood was found, no murder weapon and no body! Yes, he probably killed her but the case is still circumstantial if we follow the narrative of this article! He will keep pleading his innocence and appeal!

The guy is a very delusional person and deserves every single year from the sentence.

By the way,I find interesting that some of the ultra pro everything Japan posters feel entitled to criticize so harshly the French juridical system suggesting them to change

But these are the same people when someone tries to criticize Japan about anything comes to say “their country their rules”

Then better stick with your politics in this matter too.

France is NOT Japan.

The decent thing to do would be to apologise to the family, reveal the whereabouts of her remains, and then quietly kill himself...... closure for the family, savings for the taxpayers.

But then, he seems like a total lying coward, so we shouldn't expect the decent thing being done anytime soon.

The guy is a stone cold killer. If you look at his eyes and where his hands is he was already waiting for the verdict of hanging. His eyes are starry his hand is on his necktie as if he is hanging himself. He looks lost in thought. He also said "I am not who I would like to be but I am not a killer and I am not the killer of Narumi," he added, speaking in French for the first time in the trial". The first thing is denial, he doesn't identify himself as a killer, but he says "I am not the who I would like to be" who would make such a statement if they don't like who they are in the present. Then speak in French for the first time, he is on to something. Perhaps if he is not the killer, and I doubt that he isn't, then maybe he knows who did kill Narumi, he had a hand in this murder, he knows where the body is and he knows as long as there's no body found he can continue to proof his innocence. This guy is a snake!!!

Exactly what I said but nobody liked hearing it from me I guess.

There is no capital punishment in France.

Would've been shorter than 28 years if sentenced in Japan, no?

The guy is a stone cold killer.

Or not. He does look unpleasant, creepy, but well, that proves nothing.

I hoped that the trial would tell us what evidence there is that anyone was killed.

The media didn't say. No corpse, no remains, no belongings found anywhere, no blood, no witnesses, no confession. So what ?

For all those commenting here that 28 years in prison is too short,

What about the last man that was seen together with Natalie Wood alive ? At least she is dead for sure.

Japanese killers get a much shorter sentence

Indeed. Like the killers of that toddler Yuachan.

In her testimony last week, Taeko Kurosaki called Zepeda a "liar"

How would she know ?

One thing I found super weird about the case. The police of a foreign country, teachers and students (people she had known for less than 2 months), volonteers that never met her, searched Narumu frantically during 2 months or more. Meanwhile the relatives in Japan did not bother taking a flight and join.

Then I assumed she was alone in life or she had very old and sick parents.

The school didn't have to call the police as many adult students just quit before finishing a course, and usually French unis don't try to check what they become.

In such a case, the family would have reported Narumi missing at some point ? Or never ?

Now, suddenly, that family say they know that Zepeda murdered the girl.

French courts did their best to give out the 28year sentence since the case wasn’t clear cut

It's huge for an unclear case. I hope they didn't make a mistake.

The maximum, "perpétuité incompressible" is 30 yrs and it's never given for a simple murder for a first timer (that's for serial killers, terrorists...). Even Jonathan Daval -that had the same lawyer as Narumi's boyfriend. That guy that killed his wife, burnt the copse in the mountain and pretended looking for her, being so sad), well he got less. And it's proven that he did it and did lie.

28 years isn't enough. And he thought he could run and hide from it all. Nonetheless - you slay, you pay.

Have a happy 28 years, chump.

By the time he turn 60 he will be out if he survives the jail syndromes.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I think that this is a much longer sentence that what he would have gotten if sentenced in Japan.

Based on what I read Japanese courts appear to be much more lenient!!!!!!!?
