Police in Kumamoto City have arrested a 39-year-old member of Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) on suspicion of stealing a security camera from a woman’s apartment.

Police allege Daiki Hatakeyama, who is stationed at Camp Kengun in Kumamoto City, stole the camera (worth 2,000 yen) from the woman’s apartment at around 7:30 p.m. on Sept 2. The woman, who is in her 30s, is reportedly an acquaintance of the suspect.

According to local media, the woman installed the security camera near her front entrance for remote monitoring after noticing glue on her apartment door. After the camera was stolen, she checked the footage which revealed Hatakeyama loitering outside her apartment.

Police said Hatakeyama has admitted to the charge.

This implies stalking, which is potentially much scarier than theft.

I really don't get why some men can't take a no for an answer. I get the go get it attitude of those who serve, but you just can force your way through everything. Who knows what would be next after the CCTV camera gets stolen, talk about taking out the surveillance assets before striking.

What a no brainer, having taken his video by the surveillance camera he stole.

There’s a big difference between being persistent in a respectful way and stalking. Many women find persistence flattering and sometimes actually realize the guy must really like or love her. Stalking on the other hand is creepy and nobody finds that flattering.

She just worries on being atractive and signaling it to men like him, than because he's not rich she doesn't respect him and acts against him at the first misstep he takes. She is not worried about having babies and marrying a healthy man, anyway Japan already have many babies...

He wasn't stealing it for its value. He was removing it for its capability.

Does anyone know what gives rise to these incidents in Japan - is it more prevalent here, than elsewhere within the World ?
