A man in his 40s was shot in a restaurant parking lot in Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Monday night, in what police believe was an organized crime gang shooting.
According to police, the shooting occurred just after 8 p.m. in the parking lot of a Denny's family restaurant in Sagamigaoka, Fuji TV reported. An emergency call was placed in which a witness reported that a man had been shot and that a number of men had fled.
Police said the victim, who was a known member of a yakuza gang, was shot once in the upper part of his body. His condition remained critical Tuesday.
No gun was found at the scene. Police are looking at street surveillance camera footage to try and determine who shot the man.

It's Denny's because it is a 24 hour restaurant. They hang out nearly all night at Denny's in Matsudo, Chiba. It's like a clubhouse to them.

I often chuckle when I read posts like "How did they get a gun? Aren't there laws against that?" or something similar.
There are laws against illegal drugs in Japan and yet we often read stories about people getting arrested for possession and use etc etc etc.
Folks have to take their heads out of the sand. Law abiding citizens here dont even conside,r nor even have a thought of owning or possessing a handgun or illegal weapon, same with drugs too, but they are here.
Granted guns are not a plague, unlike other countries in the world, but they do exist, and it isn't all that hard to imagine where they came from either.

Yes, it's always a Denny's for some reason. Never a Saizeriya or Jonathan's. Here is another Denny's shooting from 2012:

Yes thefu guns are illegal there (I heard it was bullets that are illegal)and taking blades over 3inchs outside unless you're a cook.

The weapons law begins by stating "No one shall possess a firearm or firearms or a sword or swords", and very few exceptions are allowed.[41] However, citizens are permitted to possess firearms for hunting and sport shooting, but only after submitting to a lengthy licensing procedure.[42]. .... so the person with the gun most likely illegally owns it

Why Denny's? Because it's foreign? Why not McDonald's? Just a suggestion because of their 100 yen menu.
