It's hilarious to watch this unfold. The Japanese have a well connected, wealthy individual in the Japanese "justice" system that isn't rolling over because he's not being treated nearly as harshly as a commoner would.
mu-da
Oh the irony, of Japanese representatives objecting "unusual and irregular" court decisions.

All procedures are being followed correctly.

This is reading like a dime store novel!

Like put it him in detention for over a month is not enough? They say evidence all time but how about current Nissan execs that can walk freely between their house and office, what will happen to evidence against them?
semperfi
.Obviously there is something to hide.
However the prosecution already has sufficient evidence. They just want to load their deck.
According to another news source, Nissan will sue Ghosn's sister for appropriating funds as an "advisor" a service, she did not render ( since 2002). Also her house was bought with Nissan fund, via Amsterdam through a company in the Virgin Island ( a tax haven)
According to another news source the prosecution has in its possession an agreement signed jointly, by Ghosn & Nissan executive detailing Ghosn's remuneration after his retirement from the automaker,
Kelly was provided details of this contract which was secured in a secret place that only Ghosn and a few associates were aware of.

Moreover - all the thse documents were not just magically drawn up out of thin.
They used technology - ipads, whatever - which had to be translated into Japanese
Via computer forensics everything that is encrypted can be decrypted.
Ghosn's and Kelly's computers, iphones, software, hardware have already been seized long agp.
The stuff in the Rio safes was icing on the cake.

I don't want someone guilty of crimes to get away. But I'm also laughing because this has been so one-sided from Japan. And Renault is basically giving Nissan the finger saying so.
Goodlucktoyou
Jail in japan, family stealing your Picasso paintings. Proves crime doesn’t pay.

I guess we're watching the "nail sticking up being nailed down."
Bugle Boy of Company B
Perhaps that evidence was in gohsn's apartment?

Well good old Japanese legal jurisdiction doesn't apply in Copacabana. Imagine that.
Japanese jurisdiction does not go beyond the national borders of Japan.

vs.
@semperfi
Ex-shachos of Japanese companies frequently get hired as "corporate advisors", effectively honorary positions. Perhaps they should all be sued too?
Belrick
He was being sarcastic.
Ex_Res
He was being sarcastic.
No he was'nt.
semperfi
Not !
Renault is currently shortlisting potential candidates to take the CEO position. Ghosn is as good as gone from Renault.
Belrick
Ex-res, I think you need to learn what sarcasm is.

Personal items I would imagine would be his clothes, underwear etc. What are these dinosaurs flapping their lips about?? Are they going to start sniffing people's underwear like in akihabara
Hubert Gulletchip
I hope Ghosn skirts this, regardless of whether he is guilty or not. Just to show the Japanese legal system for what it is. I hope they leave with egg all over their faces.

Now we'll watch Nissan squirm. Saikawa should be finished
WiseOneIn Kansai
Anyway, sounds fishy to me why they had to retrieve the stuff from the safes privately.
Maybe, he did have something to hide!!

Seriously Nissan, you have so little evidence it seems, you are so desperate to point the finger at mystery papers and folders. This says nothing about the fact you entered the apartment WITHOUT permission and without a warrant and searched it... or perhaps planted something. You should have had rock solid evidence BEFORE you arrested Ghosn.
wtfjapan
However the prosecution already has sufficient evidence. They just want to load their deck. LOL
oh please if that was the case then there would be no need to detain Ghosn, no need for a false confession just go straight to court with the so called evidence they have, even J law professors are sceptical of the evidence the prosecutors have , they seem to think the majority of their case is made up with circumstantial evidence
Slickdrifter
Family members of Carlos Ghosn-entered an apartment he used in Rio de Janeiro and removed items, according to Nissan.- As thier right to do so. So says the Brazilian court,
"personal effects were removed, and the safes were opened,"- There goes the smoking gun broken to bits and thrown in the Guandu river. Purley specualtion on my part. Wink wink.
Japanese prosecutors charge that Ghosn under-reported his income by tens of millions of dollars over the past eight years. He denies the accusations.- Thats it Mr. Ghosn. Deny deny deny deny.
Nissan said in its statement that its representatives had been allowed on Thursday to accompany Ghosn's family inside the apartment -- but were prohibited from witnessing the opening of the safes and seeing what was removed from them, or reviewing documents taken.-This is so awesome. How do you imagine those Nissan employees felt? I bet that Nissan plant file was tucked under an arm as the family member walked passed the Nissan reps just to make a point. Like eating an icecream cone infront of of five year old and not giving him a lick. Frowns on facses abound!
The representatives saw family members "removing two plastic folders containing documents from a wardrobe," one of which had a Nissan logo and another with the title "Resende Plant."- It must be the smoking gun! A tresure trove of evidence. Quick off to the shredder!
We believe that these documents cannot possibly have been of a personal nature" but rather of a "suspected corporate nature," Nissan said.- What's that sound? The "suspected corporate nature" file contents in the shredder in Mr. Ghosn private office in the apartment tuning off and eating away. But let's keep the file and walk by those suites to stir up some controversy. Sorry I am having to much fun here.
This is not going to end well for Nissan. They are so desperate to fink linkage to misconduct that they are trying to get this ancient Japanese justice system to work globally like the CIA. Good luck.
And the kicker here.
It said it "strongly objected to the unusual and irregular" court decisions preventing its representatives from determining what documents were taken or noting them in an inventory.- Bahahaha! Strongly object you all you want Nissan. You have no jurisdiction in Brazil what so ever.
What's Nissan's next move? When will Ghosn get out of the nick? Japanese proscuters scramble and thinking of bailing on the whole case. Who will get justice? We will find out in the next expisode.
This is better than Netflix.
commanteer
However this turns out, it's not the first time Nissan has resorted to dodgy legal shenanigans to get their way in something. But it does assure that I will never, ever buy a Nissan car.
vinarius@pm.catv.ne.jp
This is not looking any good for Japan Inc but Nissan have admitted that their people ( Japanese ) think that they know???. It also proves that there is no valid evidence to hold Carlos or Kerry any longer ,except power. This may become a Moral law case, which human-rights group from around the world will step in. Well, maybe it is time....................back-stabbing and making guchi ( Japanese low method of bad mouthing people, not only bosses ) to take them down , yr time has come. Will all the good people, who knows Japanese system of operation from small to big companies forgive such back-stabbing poor minded, underhanded Japanese people of Japan ???. Moral laws are still valid in Japan for all good people.
NAN DESU KA
Nissan officials watched as 2 folders were removed, and walked right past them, at this moment NISSAN realized it had bit off more than they can chew. Incriminating evidence is believed to be in the folders? Probably against NISSAN, bet there's another layer to this story that hasn't even popped its head out of the ground yet.
Maybe Carlos had something on NISSAN and some higher up Individuals, and of course he didn't keep that info in japan? NISSAN tossed him under the bus to soon and now realize the mistake, collateral damage coming soon. Im sure Carlos had a plan in place just in case he got tossed, before he could finish the merger, his family and legal team have all they need now to put NISSAN on Its Knees. Big scandal coming soon!
Maybe this whole fiasco is getting ready to turned upside down?
Interesting times coming soon for JAPANS Archaic Justice system, and there won't be a merger but a take over by renault. Have this feeling trying to keep it japanese is gonna really backfire, especially when renault decides to change the NISSAN name and the JAPANESE won't be able to stop it.
LOL
