If he had a solid defense he would not have escaped - thereby putting at least 7 other ( Innocent) people in jeopardy with the law.

I guess you've never had the pleasure of an interaction with the criminal justice system.

Who are the other 7 people?

I do agree though that it's time to reveal all his evidence.......the longer it goes on the more disbelieving his side of the story becomes.

One wonders if the people behind the down votes even bothered to read the article from Asia Times in the link I posted?

somebody just needs to go to Lebanon and collect that bounty

The deals he made with Suhail Bahwan Automobiles sound nefarious, but for those who have never done business in the Middle East, or Africa, or about half the planet, business is controlled by agents like these.

No bribery involved or even necessary. From Ghosn's book: "As part of Nissan’s reconquest of the Middle East market, Suhail Bahwan Automobiles became a distributor for the Japanese automaker in 2004. The partnership was for sales, not only in Oman but also in other markets, through its Arata International Trading subsidiary. Those markets included Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia and even China. The partnership benefited Nissan considerably"

One finds these same kinds of exclusive territorial distributorships in many industries, from motorcycles like Harley Davidson to boats to over the road trucks to some appliances. In a rough part of the world like that offering an exclusive territory is the only way to interest someone in investing their time and money to sell and service your product.

For Carlos Ghosn to have "laundered money" as some accuse him of would have required the cooperation and signatures of at least twenty others in the Renault / Nissan alliance. Read this before coming to any conclusions of your own. I think he was the fall guy in a larger dispute between Nissan, Japan and Renault. At least in a French trial his attorneys will be allowed the discovery not permitted in Japan to gain the documentation necessary to clear his name.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Common Sense tells you, Ghosn can’t just spend company money, even using the so-called “CEO reserve” fund, without receiving multiple authorizations.

Lebanon was very apathetic with the j-justice since Japan ignored all the requests for info from Lebanon authorities during the 130+ days of Ghosn detention.

The Japanese narcissism lead to this situation.

Ghosn didn't need to ask for protection.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

When Ghosn arrived in Lebanon via "instrument box" one of the first things he did was to ensure that he could not be extradited anywhere and had the Lebanese authorties prohibit him from leaving Lebanion. Note that Ghosn has never been charged with anything in Lebanon under Lebanese law amd therefore there exists no grounds or purpose for such a prohibition. This is subterfuge to avoid ever exposing himself to other jurosdictions, be it Japan, France or EU,

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What bribes?!

Japan has no extradition agreement with Lebanon.

As simple as that.

No need to bribe nobody.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

His bribes to government officials to ban him from leaving Lebanon is only good until the next Lebanese election. If these officials are booted out where do you think Ghosn will flee to? Brazil is a good candidate or some other South American bureaucracy were bribes will be willingly accepted

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I wish they would stop brining this up, its become more national embarrassment towards the police and justice system here. Its done nothing but put an international spotlight on how crazy it is.

I suspect he did -something- the same way all the Japanese staff who surrounded/replaced him in the wake of the scandal did something, and had people side eye it making them quit, without investigation weeks into the position. I could care less about rich people being shady, thats how they get rich, but Japan refusing to investigate NISSAN as a whole when there is sooooo much blatant wrong doing and finger pointing at others (foreigners) is ridiculous.

Just stop...its a waste of tax payer money.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

It is a shame that the accused are not innocent until the state proves them guilty, but guilty until they prove the committed no crime. That is a travesty of Nipponese justice.

@Thomas GoodtimeToday  08:10 am JST

An innocent man who escaped the fourth world court system of Japan.

Are you willing to elaborate the 4th world? and the 4th world court system?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

He needs lessons from the Clintons on how to steal money and never be indicted.

He said otherwise there will be trial in France in his absence.

So he's refusing to surrender not only to Japan but France as well. The French arrest warrant is valid throughout the EU. Looks like Ghosn will be stuck in Lebanon for quite a while.

never been to Lebanon obviously.

it’s a great place made even better if you have money!!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Ghosn has been a hero to feed those to damn Japan and Japan justice. The baton was passed to France, one of what you call advanced democratic countries. Ready to defend yourself? in Lebanon? Laughable.

What a coward excusing yourself as if Lebanon govt. forcefully locking you inside the country and you can do nothing about it.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

There is no reason. He is fit enough to travel and attend. There is no 'ban' as he describes. He is restricted at the request of Interpol. It's just to make sure he doesn't join Snowden in Russia or what. But Lebanese authorities would allow him to go to dates with his fav judges in France or Japan.

Lebanon confiscated Ghosn’s passports, meaning he can’t legally leave Lebanon or enter France.

The deals he made with Suhail Bahwan Automobiles sound nefarious, but for those who have never done business in the Middle East, or Africa, or about half the planet, business is controlled by agents like these. This allows the proper officials to be bribed via a third party. You might be offended by such nonsense, but it is the way things are done. Here in the west we are no less corrupt, we are just most sophisticated in the practice of corruption.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

If there's gonna be a trial, the trial will be in Lebanon

Otherwise, nothing's gonna happen, and he'll have already passed on into the afterlife

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

At least he is innocent until proven guilty in France. Unlike Japan where he is guilty until proven innocent.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Ghosn is not just Lebanese but French/Brazilian. Lebanon keeps defending the one with multiple passports.

With French justice keep pressuring Lebanon hard, think Ghosn must face justice in France soon.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Defending himself, LOOOOOL !!.. And what is this criminal planning to do, to escape from justice cowardly to another country hidden inside another box??..

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

Hope on a plane and pop over then. We are waiting. Free accommodation too.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Most of the evidences used by French prosecutors are fabricated by Nissan. It would be easy for Ghosn to defend himself in France. Unlike in Japan where police and prosecutors have their ears clapping to arrest and kidnap people for 23 days.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

He said French and Japanese judicial authorities should cooperate with Lebanese authorities

Be careful what you wish for, M. Ghosn. Now that there is a warrant, French justice can ask your extradition. It can be accepted for dual citizens charged in their other country.

I cant see why he cant have a trail via a live link in a lebonesse court room.

Anyone with an idea knows he never would have got a fair trial in Japan! A 99% conviction rate and a need for Japan to save face in this obviously politically motivated debacle would have seen him behind bars regardless of his guilt or innocence!

None of that has anything to do with the French arrrest warrant.

@OssanAmerica

So he's refusing to surrender not only to Japan but France as well. The French arrest warrant is valid throughout the EU. Looks like Ghosn will be stuck in Lebanon for quite a while.

Read the article it clearly states:

Ghosn "is subject to a judicial ban on leaving Lebanese territory."

This does not mean he is refusing to surrender to France what he is saying is he can't surrender to France as he can't leave Lebanon.. Read the damn article before you make uninformed comments please.

He's using it as an "excuse" to not subject himself to French Law. Acquire some real legal experience before you comment please.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Ghosn skipped bail and fled to Lebanon because he thought he couldn’t have a fair trial in Japan. Now the land of liberty fraternity and equality wants him on trial. He couldn’t expect a better opportunity than this to prove his innocence.

I cant see why he cant have a trail via a live link in a lebonesse court room. lets see what evidence the Japanese and french have. I hope they have something rock solid if not they could be totaly emmbarressed.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Pretty sure he ain't ever gonna leave Lebanon.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

In the case of Japan vs Ghosn I am perfectly happy with either of them losing completely, best case scenario both will lose.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

No one is giving my buddy Carlos any freedom to explain his side of the story. From the antiquated Japanese legal system to the French traditional legal system that requires an overhaul, Carlos is being silenced by the very people who were involved with the illegal consumption of funds for their very own purposes and to hold onto power. Let Carlos speak his mind on live TV so the world can hear what he has to say, then after his presentation of what he deems fit as facts, a lengthy Q & A session by a credible third party. After the live TV examination of the facts, either move the case forward to a criminal case against Carlos, or enable Carlos to take Japan and/or France to court. My bet is, Carlos is innocent on all charges. A man like Carlos could not have possibly stole funds. A man like Carlos prides himself on results based on his talent. He is proud to be Carlos and proud of what he was trying to achieve. Japan just did not want an international CEO to merge a Japanese company with a foreign company. Japan made Carlos the fall guy. It's obvious to me and millions of people, globally.

However opinions are allowed and I'd say he wouldn't surrender even if he had the option to.

Asserting immunity, or tax exemption, with working capital has an impact on the welfare system and unemployment. Pension planning is involved with industry leaders and mutually with the workers, this is well known by Toyota Motors honorary chairman Fujio Cho. The workplace environment and corporate social responsibility is involved with legal issues of corporate governance that the board of directors must consider. Evaluation and negotiation for the duration of effort that all employees contribute to the legal correct compliance is an important factor with all automotive engineers and overall quality of the process to produce the product with investor relations, public relations, and reliance on product quality. Marketing consultants involving these factors with all employees hence can determine how Mr. Carlos Ghosn acted with limited consent to waiver his legal rights in view of conflict of interest. The important point in Japan and the automotive industry as with all industry workplace environment is human rights as primary concern then socio economics of allowing the product with factors necessary to support financial basis and quality to the consumer. Are these a concern in the correct priority and factors for the negotiation?

French election is tight between candidate, poll only show few percent different.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/04/22/french-election-2022-poll-tracker-emmanuel-macron-marine-le-pen/

Ghosn just one of victims because Japanese doesn't want to French to have double voting rights.

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/01/business/dealbook/renault-sharehlders-back-french-governments-voting-rights-plan.html

After plan was implemented to push double voting rights being implemented by French and he need to handle alone people that really angry with that decision, with no help from French.

So Macron use Ghosn twice, for his 2022 election and before that is for Nissan-Renault alliance that doesn't work especially after Ghosn being indicted by Japanese justice. Which Macron did nothing to help him.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Throw him to the Lions I say!!

-2 ( +11 / -13 )

The timing is surprising. A warrant like that is issued two days before the (French) presidential election?" Ghosn said. "This makes us a bit suspicious. There is bad smell."

true.

He said French and Japanese judicial authorities should cooperate with Lebanese authorities and send the cases to Beirut and judicial authorities in Lebanon can see if there was any wrongdoing. He said otherwise there will be trial in France in his absence.

sounds fair.

He repeatedly insisted that he did not receive any money from the Oman distributor

Well, that may be technically true because the allegation, if I recall correctly, is that the funds from the Omani Nissan dealer were sent to a Lebanese shell company called 'Beauty Yachts' allegedly controlled by Carol Ghosn. In any case, the key ingredient of the alleged crime here is not just the money but the fact that Ghosn failed to disclose these conflicts of interest to the Nissan board while also lobbying them to pay millions of dollars in additional dealer incentives to the Omani dealer.

..

BIG DEAL - he has no choice now, really - sp, he has to put up some defense (with the few millions he has left now).

So many international assets frozen - and there is NOWHERE to escape to any more.

Besides, he's had since 2018 to make his case.

If he had a solid defense he would not have escaped - thereby putting at least 7 other ( Innocent) people in jeopardy with the law.

.

Defend himself by getting into a box and escaping the country again?
