Man,What's with all of those middle-aged/elderly women trying to get a peek of him.

Maybe because of the pandemic they haven't been able to go overseas on a package tour so they are getting their kicks more locally?

Bizzarre.

the lesser charge of homicide with consent.

Is this really a thing? How can they prove beyond any doubt that the victims consented to be murdered?

I am sick to my stomach. But I think Japanese society at large is also to blame. There are systematic failures in this country, especially in mental health care.

Raped and murdered four children. Needs to be put in a small cell right up to the point his neck is snapped like a dry twig.

This photo is one of the things about Japan that disgusts me. Vicarious people lining up for a bit of gore. I think they're as sick as the guy on trial.

Death penalty. Please.

@ Trevor Pence and others. Have you thought about the people lining up could be relatives to go see that justice is being served. Why have such a negative thought based on a picture? Do you draw all of your critical thinking if any based on what you see with out facts? I understand some people are just visual thinkers please excuse me I am going to think you fall in that group.

A Japanese Charlie Manson minus the Manson "family". This sicko did it all himself, more like a Ted Bundy or

John Wayne Gacy. SICK!

You should be disgusted to be a human then because voyeurism is practiced to some extent by every culture in the world.

How can they prove beyond any doubt that the victims consented to be murdered?

I see people here on JT making solid conclusions for themselves based on much less proof all the time. The evidence is pretty clear. There is email proof they were going to meet a guy who promised to help them die. Not the man though. That was clearly plain old murder to hide his tracks.

I am not reading however where they consented to sex. And that seems very, very unlikely that they did. So I hope there are rape charges as well. The charges of stealing money seem rather ridiculous. I am also sure there are charges of abandoning a corpse and those are similarly ridiculous. All in all the murder charges and and rape charges should be enough that he never has a second of freedom until he dies. He would never in my world.

Oh get off it. Teenagers are not children. Treating them like they are despite the obvious evidence they aren't is one of the foundations for suicides and one or two of these going to him in the first place. The best years of their lives are ruined because of adults shoving them through a meaningless school system that totally fails to educate them to live the life they desire to live. But they have no means of refusal because they have no right to a real job or even to get a cell phone on their own.

Do the hustle

the lesser charge of homicide with consent.

I think they base this on social media communication. It is correct they all wanted to die, but the talk was about with him, not by him.

It's like a horror movie.

I just think of the poor blinking families that have been torn apart by his self centred actions, each of these victims have parents, possibly children, brothers and sisters.

A full psychiatric investigation should be performed to find the reasons why this person acted so wrongfully, and to prevent such future crimes.

A full psychiatric investigation should be performed

It most likely was.

A lot of hate in these posts. As crazy as it sounds, these people all volunteered to be murdered. It’s likely that, in his mind, he was carrying out a community service.

This man is clearly mentally ill. I’m not condoning his actions whatsoever. It’s barbaric. But on the other hand, what were these people thinking visiting a complete stranger’s home??? It’s a Japanese societal problem in general

@vanessa, under Japanese law they were minors, not adults. The UN defines a child as anyone under 18. So thank you for the correction. By definition only THREE were children.

Does it matter about 'consent'? This sicko MURDERED 9 youths! Murder is a CRIME, period.

@vanessa, under Japanese law they were minors, not adults.

"Minors" does not equal "children". Thus the different terms. One is for purposes of law only. A convenience. The other is more general and practical.

The UN defines a child as anyone under 18.

Same thing as above only its stupid of the U.N. to use the word child for a legal definition, if they do. I don't know where you got your info.

Besides which, you are only fleshing out the exact problem I was referring to. Disenfranchising teenagers by treating them as children is leading many to suicide. I don't care if stupid governments and other stupid organizations officialized the practice! Its still STUPID!

Its also stupid for people to let governments and other such organizations to dictate definitions to them. I suggest people use dictionaries written by SCHOLARS rather than stupid and/or devious politicians.

It’s likely that, in his mind, he was carrying out a community service.

The rapes completely obliterate that notion. Clearly he was in it for his own jollies. Its even more clear when you realize he only made this "offer" to young females. This guy is very far from a Dr. Kevorkian.

I am not against assisted suicide so long as there are protocols followed. This guy had no protocols to ensure legitimacy. That's because he was nothing but an opportunist in it for his own sport.

The promise on social media was to die together. You know, the sealed windows and charcoal stove thing that is so common in Japan. Suicide pacts are not that unusual.

They certainly did not expect to get raped and murdered by this guy who had no intention to die himself at all.
