Man arrested after punching taxi driver, stealing his cab in Sapporo

Police in Sapporo have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of assault and stealing a vehicle after he punched a 65-year-old taxi driver and stole the cab.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, NTV reported. Police said the man was a passenger in the taxi, and punched the driver in the face while the vehicle was moving. When the driver stopped the taxi and got out to call 110 for help, the suspect stole the taxi and drove off.

The driver was not seriously injured.

At around 7 a.m., the man was arrested after the taxi was found parked outside a convenience store.
