Police in Chofu, Tokyo, said Sunday they have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he shoved a 29-year-old man on the platform at a train station on Saturday. The victim’s head hit the side of a departing train.

The incident occurred at Shibasaki Station on the Keio Line at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Fuji TV reported. Witnesses said the victim and three friends were at the ticket gate when the victim bumped into the suspect, Hiroo Kondo.

Kondo got angry and the two started arguing and continued their arguing on the platform. Kondo then shoved the younger man toward the edge of the platform just as the train was leaving the station. The left side of his head hit the train.

Police said the victim suffered a brain contusion but is expected to live.

Kondo was quoted by police as saying he was drunk. He said he can't remember the argument and can't understand why he was arrested.

Do they teach this stuff in school? If you're ever accused of a crime, say the following...

Give it a rest! I'm tired of the same refrain. :‑)

The problem of alcoholism leads to criminality and is not an excuse. People who are alcoholics aren't necessarily bad. But, like the drug addicts they are, they can not shirk the responsibility for their criminality.

Ah, the "I was drunk! I can't remember!" excuse. Please charge him with attempted murder, and give him MORE time for the excuse!

It is here, BUT it doesnt mean he wont get away either. A lot depends upon the victim and whether or not he chooses to file a complaint against this guy.

Simple...lock him up until his memory improves, then charge him with attempted murder.

TThe drunk argument

Being so drunk you cannot remember should be part of the offense, not an excuse.

"...Well actually, officer, I have complete recall of the entire incident. Drinking? Oh dear me, no. Never touch the stuff. Why, did I appear intoxicated to you? Really...oh the shame of it all..."

Frankly I am surprised Japanese politicians don't use this same 'drunk' excuse when they muck things up and waste huge sums of tax payers' money. It's time Japan change the law to clearly state that you will be responsible for your actions if you are drunk and verbally assault, grope, injure or kill someone. Enough is enough with this lame excuse.

"can't understand why he was arrested"

Denial of reality is more like it

Yes and people on here harp on cigarette smokers but never say anything about the dangers of alcohol.

He has been arrested. You people call it an "excuse" but just because the guy says he doesn't remember that doesn't mean he gets away with it, I doubt anyone saying they don't remember has any real expectation of getting away with a serious crime and I doubt the cops give a crap what his "excuse" is.

The only people getting away with boring broken record crimes are you people on here.

DaDude: nice one, too true

Arriving train, attempted murder. Departing train, maybe not.
