Police in Tokyo have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 24-year-old woman whose body was found in a hotel room in Fuchu on Friday morning.

Police said Hikaru Ishikawa, whose occupation is unknown, is accused of killing Sana Hirabayashi between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Thursday, Kyodo News reported.

The couple had checked into the hotel at around 2 a.m. Thursday. However, Ishikawa left the hotel alone at around 6:30 a.m.

A hotel employee called police at around 1:40 a.m. Friday after not being able to contact Hirabayashi. Police went to the hotel and found her lying on the bed. She had been stabbed in the neck and was declared dead at the scene. No weapon was found in the room.

Police said Ishikawa was identified from street surveillance camera footage. He was detained at his home where police found two survival knives, one of them bloodstained.

Police said Ishikawa has admitted to stabbing Hirabayashi as she slept. He said they had met last year online and had gone out together several times.

"... He said they had met last year online and had gone out together several times."

Who told you J-Pan is “The Safest Country in the world” ?

…unless you’re female, that is.

Even then it's one of the safest countries in the world.

You keep saying this even though it's not true.

It is true. I showed, taking into account your number of only 4% of rapes being reported, that rapes occur at roughly 100x the per-capita rate in the US as compared to Japan. I did the same for a couple of other countries as well, and asked you to provide some other countries, and I would do the same.

This is using your number of only 4% of rapes being reported.

Whether you like it or not, Japan is one of the safest countries in the world. This is a relative comparison, meaning that in comparison with all the other countries, Japan is safer. You have stated you don't feel anywhere in the world is safe, which doesn't negate the statement I made; maybe you aren't 'safe' in Japan, but however you qualify 'safe', you're 'safer' here than in almost every other country on the planet.

It’s interesting that he didn’t even wash the knife after at least 24 hours, and he didn’t try to get rid of knife. He should have just called police. Were there any motives?

@girl_in_tokyo

Please tell us which countries you think are the safest in the world?

Japan is consistently in the top ten of safest countries in the world and is usually #1 for least amount of homicides.
