Hiroyuki Shinoda was held on suspicion of selling a total of 12 DVDs of naked girls to three people in Japan through the mail from New Zealand between January and February 2015, police said.

This is sad on so many levels! Only took 3 1/2 years to catch the dude, while how many others are getting away?

Well if they have a list of his customers there should be mandatory maximum jail time for ALL involved!

Japan is not that serious about child porn historically.

Guys like this need to go away for a very long time

I read somewhere that over half of all child porn comes from Japan. I can't recall the site, but the figure was around 70%. I don't know how accurate that stat is..If someone on this site knows any more about this..

I assume they've arrested him on his return to Japan although the article isn't very clear on the circumstances,

If the website was registered in Japan and the transaction occurred on a JP banking app, then technically the crime occurred in Japan and alerting the NZ authorities wouldn't have achieved anything as the crime did not occur there.

The Japanese authorities knew if they just sat it out, then he would return voluntarily. Tip him off that something was up and he'd likely avoid coming home.

They should of let keep sending them, but bug the dvds. Then arrest all the customers as well as him.

This might need clarification. Naked girls is questionable, not illegal, unless posed in sexual manner or acts. Otherwise, all those peeing fountains and cherubs from pictures would have to be confiscated (nearly all of the renaissance works). Pretty sure most countries follow this guideline as most have art museums.

If the crime originated in New Zealand, wouldn't New Zealand authorities demand that Shinoda be extradicted back to stand for those crimes? Just wondering if this will turn into a fight against extradition or not. I don't know if New Zealand and Japan have such a treaty in place - wouldn't see why they wouldn't

I can't see New Zealand getting involved in this. In the short article above it was a crime by a Japanese national, selling to Japanese in Japan.

Why take the time and effort request and organize extradition for a non-national, only to bear the cost of prosecuting him, imprisoning him, only to deport him back to his home country. If the Japanese police are doing the hard work and clearly have the evidence and information . . . .

I kind of wish he got arrested in NZ. The penalties are Ichiro severe and the prisons are a very unfriendly place for those with child sex fetishes.

He would have committed crimes in both countries. He possessed and transmitted the DVDs in New Zealand which would be a crime under New Zealand law. He also imported the DVDs into Japan, which would be a crime under Japanese law.

He has been arrested in Japan and will be prosecuted for the crime he committed in Japan first. New Zealand may request extradition after that so that he can be separately prosecuted for the crimes committed there. I don't think there is a bilateral treaty between Japan and New Zealand on extradition. Technically this isn't a barrier to a request for extradition being made, but Japanese law states that Japanese nationals cannot be extradited to countries which it does not have an extradition treaty with. This also might not be a barrier though since Japan and New Zealand are parties to some multilateral treaties which impose extradition obligations which might cover offences like this, though I'm not sure if that is the case.

I know my comment sounded kinda bad, but it needed to be clarified. I remember several months ago facebook flagged the napalm girls (naked) as kiddie prn. They ended up showing that picture on many news stations to convince its not prn, its just nudity...no anchors have been arrested to this day.

Porn in Japan is a $20 billion industry

Porn in Japan is a legal industry.

Child porn is not.

Let's not conflate these two things.

Just because someone has hit the magical number 18 doesnt mean they can't be exploited and abused. So lets not completely separate the two either.

Someone under 18 cannot consent. Someone over 18 can. If you are talking about people 18 years old who have been forced or coerced/blackmailed into it, that also is different from porn. Porn is a legal market where people legally agree to do things that happen on film. People doing what you describe are criminals.

Goes to show how sadly distorted these Japanese men are.  And, hyprocrites with an insane level of egoism. Mercy and compassion on their souls.
