Depends on how you define Karma, western is very different from the asian ones.

RIP.

Karma is a Buddhist Term incorporating reincarnation - the consequences of a single persons actions carry into the next and subsequent lives. Western culture doesn't really admit personal reincarnation - in Western culture Karma is really just used (by those who use it) as an abbreviation for "what goes around comes around", the Japanese equivalent of which is 自業自得 "jigyoujitoku". Just about every culture has an equivalent expression to express this universal concept.

ever lived in a small wooden house, with small wooden rooms? father drinks everyday. child is either unemployed(pakinko) and single, or his wife is the slave to the depressed mother-in-law. the grandmother probably has dementia and her husband is long gone. everybody is watching everybody in the neighbourhood, so keep the curtains closed. with only one income, money is tight. no luxury food or holidays, just everyday inside, watching tv. that might be a reason...

You reap what you sow. Too many children here are or were raised with silver spoons in their mouths and never taught to be independent.

This happens all to often to just brush it off as an isolated case.
