The only thing newsworthy in this ever redundant story is that Mr Urata wasn't a cop himself.

This isn't news that's worthy of being reported i thought initially.

But after reading of the 730 items being found at his residence makes me wonder why it took so long to catch him.

That's alot of item's !

K3PO;

Haven’t you ever seen a used underwear VENDING Machine?

I have to agree with the comments above. This really isn’t news is it.

it’s just titillating click bate that is put on here time and time again.

guaranteed we will have

another panty thief story in a week or two.

one things for sure. If this is THEE news ,Japan must be way safer than I thought

I've been here for at least 15 years, and still wonder if I'm missing something about Japan. I just don't understand this behavior or filming up skirt. I don't get it.

We live in a country where THIS makes the news. Nothing like the stuff you read about other countries. Did you see the news from the USA this morning?

"stealing women’s underwear from a laundry."

cant go anywhere without a deranged, tamperer, peeper or bum maniac lurking somewhere, they need "lockdowns" for them, they pose high risk for cv19 variant spread

"Police said Urata was identified through surveillance camera footage."

GOOD!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I think this is the only country where girls sell their used pants for few thousands yen to perverts, so I am not so surprised, it is kind of sick but also they created this kind of sick people with their own weird selling tacrics....

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Let's hope these garments were washed before the theft.

What a haul! What a haul!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Keep letting people like this get away with slaps on the rest and they will move from stealing panties to just wanting to touch some breasts and run away, to who knows what worse things. Japanese courts seemingly advertise this stuff as a cheap method of fun with no consequences.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

This guy had got 730 pairs of panties in his home...wow, how long has he been steeling them for? 2-3-4 years?

I wounder how did he steel them, did he wait in the laundrette and just take them, did the ladies intrust the laundrette to wash them on there behalf?

Police said Urata was identified through surveillance camera footage. where was the cctv in the laundrette? if so why didnt they catch him before, has any one reported there knickers going missing? he must have hung around the laundrette quite some time to steel 730 knickers, I am surprised no one noticed him or what he could be upto possibly with having suspicious motives.

Now the police should return these undies to their owners since they have the time to even investigate this theft.

Did you see the news from the USA this morning?

I'm not used to reading news from countries where I don't live. Anyway I just read it and no... doesn't seem to be anyone in the US interested in women's panties. Well now I have to leave you, dinner is ready, but my wife is asking me where all her panties have gone from the balcony...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Wait! Where do all the "bodies of the crime" go? Free panties for all !! :P

headline is abit underwhelming! how could JT miss out the most interesting part of the story in the headline - 730 stolen underwear! Insane collection!

There is no 'used underwear vending machine' in Japan.

It would be removed and the owner fined as this is clearly against the hygienic law.

There are however in some nightclub areas vending machines with NEW underwear, which some customers are using as a gift for bargirls.

I love the Australian slang term for these blokes: snowdroppers. (Also the name of an Aussie rock group.)

730 items - enough for his lewd entertainment every day for 2 full years. The laundromats are just one location - these cretins also take them off laundry racks on the ground level of mansion apartments, and from inside the changing rooms of onsens (which is likely in a place like Beppu - many older establishments don't have CCTV or security cameras to note when a man entered the ladies' rooms.)

@starpunk, i had to watch pink floyds vid to understand your post, it makes sence now

I think it takes a 'special' cop to be tasked with that counting. I bet there were heaps of officers with their hopes high.

Japan seriously need a new business used-unwashed-UGs

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I like how busy our police are with similar, petty crimes. But when it comes to the really blatant crimes, they do nothing. A sports car runs a red light in front of a police officer and disappears at two hundred km/h? Nothing happens, the cop doesn't get duck. A pedestrian steps into a crosswalk when the green light starts blinking? The officer acts immediately and it takes like 15 minutes, long talking...

Someone steals underwear? It's in the paper right away. Financial crime? "Well, that's complicated.".

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I'm just relaxed to read that its women's underwear and not 730 bodies!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I wonder if DNA testing could relocate some of the underware back to the original owners? has the underware been washed? if the undies were not washed, his house must be awfully smelly, this guy needs some serious help. if no one has come forward to report the thefts he could quite simply say he bought them from a shop, then this would not be a crime. ( other than the one he got cought steeling)

In my hometown a few years ago this creep stalked little boys and took their socks off. The cops busted into his home and found a Christmas tree adorned with pairs of boys' socks hanging like ornaments.

What the heck does a man need women's used underwear for? Filthy habit.

Remember that scene from '16 Candles' where that geek wanted to show Molly Ringwald's undies to some people outside to 'show off' and brag about something that he didn't do? Some people never grow out of that mentality.

What a haul! What a haul!

Sounds like we have somebody with a serious case of the Arnold Layne Syndrome here.

Counting it now, up to 730, is almost similarly crazy, isn’t it? lol

K3PO

Let's hope these garments were washed before the theft.

As far as I understand this particular subculture, the unwashed items are more desirable. Maybe ask your local police about that?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Yeah another delightful important titillating click bate story to distract.

Thanks to the highly observant undercover underwear detective Victoria secrets are safe .

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

What do we expect. These kind of acts are common in Japanese rated/porn (JAV) movies. The only difference is in the movies, the JAV girls find it hot too and gave in.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

I think what’s news is police spend time on this.
