Police in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, said Thursday they have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he threw a fire extinguisher from the 12th floor of his apartment building.

According to police, the suspect, Kan Soppu, a company employee, has admitted to the charge. He was quoted as saying he was irritated at the time. However, Kan said he had no intention of killing anyone.

The incident occurred at around 9:40 a.m. on March 6. The fire extinguisher, which weighs about five kilograms, landed on the first floor area, near where a security guard was patrolling. He was not hurt.

Irritated people do not throw thing off tall buildings. Delusional psychos do.

I had a body fall within 3 feet in front of me outside a sukiya restaurant in Shibuya 2 years ago. That was frightening. RIP.

I had a schoolmate throw an ashtray out of the 15th floor of the hotel we were staying at. Thank god he didn't hit anyone below with it.

He thought it was funny. I thought it was the stupidist thing ever and thought he was either really stupid or mentally handicapped.

Our whole tour group got kicked out that hotel and the organizers had to scramble to find us another hotel.

This fire extinguisher shot putter dummy should get smacked around some as well as get some heavy jail time.

Is this a thing now? You're annoyed so just throw a heavy object off a building? Go and punch a pillow instead, lunatics

Just like the guy who threw the bike off the building and hurt an old lady, nothing will happen to this guy. All his lawyers will have to say is "Hey, what about the guy who threw the bike? At least our client didn't hurt anybody"

@dead. My friends father in law had the same experience and doesn’t like tall buildings, hence my comment above.

I am unable to comprehend why people do such things. It seems so obvious that such an act is dangerous and might hurt or even kill other people. I hate to demand other people to do or not to do things. But may I tell him: Don't do that!

That is definitively not how it works. Wow.

I think that guy got a suspended sentence (coincidentally, also in Sakai). I know some think suspended sentences are too lenient, but I'm all for them in certain circumstances. If the person has no previous record, it gives the person a second chance at little cost to the taxpayer. It also adds a disincentive to commit any kind of crime for the duration of the sentence. (I'm assuming any monetary compensation for the original crime is paid.)

This has made me paranoid. My area has many snakes. Before, I can relax when I go to the city, no snakes. Now I have to keep looking up.
