Police in Tokyo have arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 42-year-old common-law wife.

According to police, Toru Kobayashi, whose occupation is unknown, showed up at a police station at around 4 a.m. Monday and said he had killed the woman he lived with at their apartment in Setagaya Ward, Fuji TV reported. Police rushed to the apartment and found the body of Yumi Maezawa. Police said she had been strangled.

Police said Kobayashi has admitted to the crime and quoted him as saying he and Maezawa had argued for years and that she often assaulted him, including once by hitting him with an electric fan.

When I turned to run out the door, she cracked me in the back of the skull with the hammer.

You turned your back on a hammer wielding person? Protip, keep your eyes on your assailant.

He had better have plenty of evidence and eyewitness reports that he was serially abused and attacked. Because the courts wont just rely on his word I dont think. Sad story.

She was kankokujin. We were together for a few years without one sign of anything like that. One day we had some friends over and we're playing cards. Something snapped and she just started beating me right in front of them.

I have a 189cm tall friend who was married to little 153cm tall wife, he was kicked, pushed, stabbed with a chopstick, then finally kicked out of the house, He once called the police and end up getting arrested and threatened to be deported, so he gave up on calling again. Men for some reasons are not quick to report abuse while they should.

I have to agree with Ken. He should have just left.

She sounds awful. He just snapped finally. She was an abuser, so no sympathy

Afterwards, during one of my counseling sessions, you told me that the ratio of women to men victims of abuse is 60/40. But men were more likely to not report it, because it's too embarrassing

I myself am a domestic violence Survivor. My first wife beat and tortured me for many years. I don't know why I didn't try to escape. Then one day she looked me straight in the eye while holding a hammer and told me she didn't care how much trouble she got in, or how long she went to jail for, she was going to kill me. When I turned to run out the door, she cracked me in the back of the skull with the hammer.
