Police have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of sexually molesting a woman in her 20s.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:15 a.m. on May 29, Fuji TV reported. Police said the suspect, Takuma Niki, a company employee, came up behind the woman as she was walking home in Aoba Ward, Yokohama. He groped her buttocks and breasts. When the woman ran away, Niki chased her for about 100 meters into nearby Machida. He then forcibly kissed her.
Police said Niki has admitted to some of the charges. He was quoted as saying: “I was feeling aroused and groped her when I realized that there was no one in sight. However, I don’t recall forcibly kissing her.”
A number of similar crimes have been reported in the neighborhood since last summer, and police are questioning Niki about his involvement in those incidents.

@Pukey2 - That would be ideal and would likely deter most would-be molesters but, Chinese and Japanese women are different. Chinese women are very vocal, upfront and stand their ground in public, whereas Japanese women avoid confrontation. Yes, non-lethal weapons are (probably) legal and available but would people use them considering their social hard-wiring?

An example of the Chinese way of dealing with this problem:

Unfortunately, Japanese police are known for their misogyny and their aversion to self-defence from victims, so it won't work in Japan.

I think that's what they do in China! And I'm sure they won't get arrested for protecting themselves!

Damn, Jenna. I'm not surprised though. My friend and I reported a group of men following us and making lewd comments, and the police just started asking us why we were out so late at night. The misogyny in Japan is so pervasive that I don't really have much hope things will change anytime soon. Meanwhile I think women should just start kicking these guys in the balls, scratching at their eyes, and hurt them in any way they possibly can.

perhaps all women should be allowed to carry stun guns

He just 'forgets' kissing her. Yet he admits everything else. Strange.

Doesn't recall forcibly kissing her, eh? Did he forget to say he was drunk?

Jenna, I'm very sorry to hear that. This is so ironic given that the movie "soredemo boku ha yatte nai" would suggest the exact opposite about guys getting caught.
Also, you mention the police said there was no camera footage. Was there no camera in the train carriage?

Hornet spray to remove pests. Or a liberal application of ones forehead to the nose of an unwanted pest - be proactive.

I was literally groped today at around 11:40am on the chiyoda line at Omotesandō station. He was whispering in my ear and staring at my legs and face before that, but chased after me and squeezed my butt twice when I went to the door to get off. I Grabbed his shirt, yelled chikan, spent 6.5 hours at the police station only to be told he probably won't get charged because he's under 20 and there was no camera footage. Chikan can just get away with anything here, no wonder the problem isn't stopping.

Not from Yokohama, but from Aoba ward in Yohokama. It's next to Machida.
Luddite
Lock him up.

He chased her from Yokohamato Machida? That's way more than 100 meters. It takes almost an hour by train
