The defense team are cowards, and I hope when this guy loses -- and if the judge is at all fair, something to be concerned about here, actually, he will lose -- he should be given the maximum sentence, times two, per charge. The guy has been in at least four road rage incidents before, and that also needs to be taken into consideration, as he most CERTAINLY was engaged in violent behaviour while driving here as well.

"Ishibashi's defense team argued that while he had engaged in harassing behavior while driving, he was no longer behind the wheel when the accident occurred and thus there is no causal link between his actions and the couple's death."

Since when is it okay to park your car in a passing lane on the expressway? Isn't that the cause of a truck rearending the couple's car?

This guy was on TV today, yawning repeatedly and laughing during the reconstruction of the accident. A reporter sent a note to the prison asking him for an interview, and he demanded 300,000 JPY in return.

Road rage is real in Japan. Many times I’ve seen drivers using their cars as weapons. I’ve also had idiots jump out of their cars and wanting to fight me because I abused them for being reckless buttholes. However, I have learned. If there is some abusive twit wanting to get in front of you or abuse you for doing the speed limit, just let them go. It is better to have them in front of you on the dash cam than having them behind you.

If he is unwilling to take responsibility, that will affect the result quite unfavourably for him.

The man obviously has a serious problem. Nasty piece of work.

In vehicular homicide related news remember the Hokkaido street racers a few years back that killed 3 family members in an accident? They each got 23 years and I hope this one gets similar sentencing or more.

If he has done the same in the past, his license should have been taken away. Ridiculous!

Uhh lemme get this freakin straight.

Man becomes enraged by a confrontation.

He illegally gives chase and forces the car to stop.

Then another car hits them from behind (obviously because of the circumstances he illegally forces) and this guy’s lawyers think they can assume its the oncoming trucks fault???

He is going to get a much heavier sentence for not pleading guilty. It is your fault (repeat offender too) that they are dead.

I'm looking at the photo and wondering, Don't these folks have anything better to do?

BTW, how come the article doesn't mention his job status, like they usually do? Or was that only mentioned in initial reports?

One more psychopath off the streets.

While I do hope he spends a long time behind bars for this, whatever the maximum is, I don't think it is fair to label his lawyers cowards. They are doing their job, raising the defences which support their client, it's up to the judge to accept or reject them. Lawyers have to defend scumbags but that ia just how the system works and not their fault.

The death penalty was made for creatures like this. Why should taxpayers have to pay to keep this cancer on society alive?

Never get out of your car in those situations. Modern cars are very difficult to break into, unless they're convertibles or the attacker is carrying special equipment.

He probably saw that the man was with his wife and daughters in the car but he selfishly disregarded their safety by forcing them to stop on a busy road. His actions were causal in their death. He caused them to stop which caused their vehicle to be struck by another vehicle, resulting in the parents' deaths and leaving the daughters not only orphans, but also injured, and, I assume, seriously so. Have the daughters suffered permanent physical injury and/or disability from this accident? The psychological and emotional trauma will be there forever.

Re. him yawning and laughing in court, and demanding money for interviews, this demonstrates a clear lack of remorse and should, if legally possible, be taken into account when pronouncing his sentence, when and if he is found guilty.

I am curious if he had alcohol in his system at the time. Has he undergone any psychological testing to determine if he even comprehends just how serious his actions were? I cannot see any defense for his actions other than insanity, so if he isn't, he should drop his shameful defense that is based on a legal technicality and admit his guilt.

This is intended murder in my opinion

While I understand lawyers need to do WHATEVER for their clients it does BEGGER BELIEF that forcing another vehicle to STOP on a highway & in the express lane no less does NOT constitute dangerous driving.

Interesting that he didn't plead guilty as is usually the case in Japan. I guess the cops weren't able to "extract" a confession from him. He's going down fighting to the end. I hope he gets what's coming.

On another note, an awful lot of working-age people seem to be free on Mondays.

Rest assured everyone, he will be punished with jail time and more. Not the death penalty as I would hope, but definitely some nice long jail time. Good riddance

That was my first thought on seeing the photo. On the other hand, if you take the view that every citizen of Yokohama should view at least one District Court trial during their lifetime, you would have a few hundred lining up for every trial. Perhaps they are just doing their civic duty.

The revenge is waiting for him, but that won't end his life, however, that will sure make him unable to drive for the rest of his life.

hang him, this scum not only is a direct cause of 4 people death but was engaged in similar practices before and clearly looking for these , no need for such individuals in our society.

Wait for driverless cars. 80km behind these things on the highway from Osaka to Tokyo...or even Nagoya, will add a day of stress to your life.
