Then, she was in his car, and bleeding. Still some explaining to do.
That's a strong accusation ! They better have something to prove it !

He did not deny anything when he was arrested. He just remained silent. Now, his lawyer is claiming the evidence was planted by the investigators. The fact his dashboard cam was erased points the finger directly at him. However, whether it is enough to convict him remains to be seen. I have no doubt he is the one responsible. Let's hope the courts can prove it.

99.8 conviction rate. your confusing forced confessions with conviction, doesn't mean a person is guilty of the crime. in the west you need conclusive evidence that a crime was committed by the accused, a confession can be corrupted and shouldn't be used solely to prove ones guilt. this is why interrogations are now recorded.

Yes let him wriggle his way out of it in vain. But in the end, the only wriggling he'll be doing will be at the end of a rope

They usually reserve the death penalty here for multiple murders..unlikely to swing even if found guilty.

Being PTA head is not necessarily a recommendation--- It's hard to argue with DNA in combination with other evidence. Jails all over the world are full of people who swear that they "never dun it".

Burden of proof is on the prosecutors
This isn't America. In Japan their only needs to be a likelihood of commitance of a crime. Its the 99% conviction rate :(

Plus his DNA was found on her body. That usually means one of two places, either under her nails, or that other place. So I guess the investigators must have planted that evidence too huh. Let's see his defense team explain how the investigators got his bodily fluids

I agree with Bintaro (as usual)
Why is her blood in his car?
Exactly.

Not these kind of sex criminals, who murder their victims. They are often trusted pillars of society who are smart enough to keep up a good front and avoid displaying any unusual behavior. They are also smart enough to keep their mouth's shut when arrested and to not confess.

Circumstantial evidence explained to the media so far strongly points to him for both the murder and abandonment of the body. It also strongly suggests that he is lying. He will wriggle and wriggle, though. I hope the truth will come out, and that whatever he says is believable.

Hmmm. I wonder. It's quite rare for a suspect in Japan to be so adamanant in his denial, especially after a few weeks of detention. The guy was also the PTA head.
Were there other similar attacks in the area before this one? Does he have a record? Did neighbors ever report strange behavior? Sex criminals usually have a spate of less serious assault incidents leading up to major ones.

Irony unchained....

Burden of proof is on the prosecutors, so they need to show that their evidence is good and there has been no room for police shenanigans.
trying to cast doubt on DNA evidence is standard defense playbook these days, so the police investigators will hopefully have their bases covered.
Wont bring the poor girl back of course.
Michael Jackson
So his defense is that the investigators planted the evidence in his car? That boy's gonna swing.
Michael Jackson
Slow train coming. One day the guards will escort him to that little red square.

No innocent person would remain silent.

Put this man in a dark hole and let him rot in there for the rest of his miserable life.

The prosecution better not mess this up. This guy has to go down hard. The HAVE to be especially harsh as this is an international issue. Vietnamese expect no mercy and there's no reason to disappoint them. Convict him and then all the way with sentencing. Don't get soft!

As always, the Japanese police did a great job. I believe it took them a month to find him. Now it is up to the prosecutors to do their job. I have no doubts that they will find Shibuya guilty. Japan has 99.8 conviction rate.
After that, he will hang. Again, well done NPA. The west can learn a lot from Japan's great police force!
