Mother arrested for stomping on 4-month-old daughter, causing her death

A 22-year-old mother has been arrested on charges of causing the death of her newborn baby after stomping on her chest multiple times, local police revealed.

The incident occurred at the family’s house in Fukuoka City’s Minami Ward at around 9:30 p.m. on July 13. Serina Machino reportedly stomped on her sleeping daughter Kokomi’s chest multiple times, eventually causing her death from heart failure, Sankei Shimbun reported.

At the time, Machino’s husband was away to use the restroom, but when he returned, he noticed Kokomi was not breathing and immediately notified emergency services.

Machino was quoted by police as saying that she had multiple quarrels with her husband over childcare after their daughter was born and was aggravated. She also told police that she stomped on her baby’s chest, but “had no intention to kill her,” Sankei Shimbun said.

Wow! So, what exactly did she think would happen if she stomped on the baby's chest? What a freaking monster!

I am sick of hearing a story like this. What is going on here? It breaks my heart to read stories like this almost everyday and it is happening in Japan! People are supposed to be polite and reserved. But when oppressed and stressed under such enormous pressure, children are often victimized by parents who don't know how to control their anger and frustrations.

Heartless witch, you need to be put in jail for the rest of your life. So sickening!

Monster. She should not be allowed near children.

Monster. She should not be allowed near children.

Kind of late don't ya think?

There is much missing from this story other than the headline grabbing violence.

@Yumi Nakata - I am sick of hearing a story like this. What is going on here? It breaks my heart to read stories like this almost everyday and it is happening in Japan! People are supposed to be polite and reserved.

Welcome to the outside looking in Yumi. Most Japanese are blind to the dark side of Japanese society. Japan is a safe place and generally people are quite reserved and conservative if you are a middle aged man. However, these qualities change dramatically if you are a child or a woman and when you are at home.

Japan is a safe place even when you are a woman, child, or at home.

The arguing would probably be about his lack of help in raising the baby.

Or maybe it was about her being a crazy, violent . Both possibilities are speculation, but while there is nothing whatsoever to suggest one way or the other about his involvement in raising the baby, there is plenty of evidence to show she is a crazy violent .

Ahh, censoring myself using asterisks in place of the word I was intending, after the word 'violent', resulted in the asterisks being removed and my post being bolded.

@Penske It's SOP @JT

Okay, JUST speculating here, but... 21 yo girl marries 45+ yo man (sugar daddy?), has baby, sees her friends going out having fun and she's stuck at home taking care of crying "brat" (speculating how she feels), upset that her hubby won't (can't?) take care of the baby, starts to resent her child, loses it in a fit of anger.

Remotely possible?

Could be acute postpartum depression, no? Not necessarily a monster.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

This wont go down well with the liberal police but she stomped her daughter to death, so no excusing her with ppd and all that. I dont care what she had any sane person knows that stomping on your daughters chest aint the right way to show your angry with your other half. I have a 6month old daughter btw.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Any SANE person knows that stomping on your daughter's chest....

Agreed. Here we have an obviously INSANE person.

funkymofo: "Could be acute postpartum depression, no? Not necessarily a monster."

No, it is most certainly a monster, even IF it's a depression thousands of women suffer from and DON'T kill their children like this and others have just this week in Japan. I hope she is locked up for life.

I was trying to understand what article you were suggesting I provide links for- if you are referring to the last sentence of the 3rd paragraph, I can clear that up. I was talking about the things people on this board had said about the woman in the main article on this page, not another article or other people. I hope that clears it up a little.

Yeah, I understand some people calling BS, but there it is. I really don't know what to say, it was awful.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

It is unfortunate that a mother can be a monster and test the power of her feet on a new born child. What a shame.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Japan is a safe country when talking about threats or dangers from other people but it isn't a safe country relative to other countries when talking about self harm. People seem to place a higher premium on dangers or threats from other people than danger/harm when they do it to themselves.

Summer's high humidity begets a spike in all manner of insanity. It's the same thing every year; the onset of July is the loons signal to emerge from the shadows and once again inject madness and mayhem into the proceedings. The neurological silly season will last a good two months during which time the rest of us will get to enjoy a surfeit of craziness that will amaze and astound. Now sit back and enjoy the ride!

See discussion on another article regarding capital punishment.

Why should have to pay to keep her alive and risk her breeding again?

I imagine a rather immature women who, in her mind, was showing her anger and punishing her husband too.

Some people obviously don't understand how mental illness works.

Machino was quoted by police as saying that she had multiple quarrels with her husband over childcare after their daughter was born and was aggravated.

As ever, the full story is not revealed. And like so many others; it probably will never be. It sounds like an extreme post natal reaction. Who knows what pressures the mother was under and what was going through her mind.

I hope that she get's the help that she deserves and those loud voices calling for vengeance and retribution take a moment to examine their own humanity.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

My humanity is doing just fine.

I am more concerned about the future of humanity, how we are shaping society and the costs of supporting not just non-productive elements of it but also damaging ones.

Could it be post-natal depression? Possibly. Could it be other psychological issues? Surely.

But to stomp on a sleeping infant ... what mentality does that take?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Here we have an obviously INSANE person.

Let's not confuse the term "insane" with "mentally ill". To be legally "insane" a person would have to not know right from wrong at the time they committed the murder. But obviously she's mentally ill to have done something so horrible.

That's funny, I am sure I asked a question about the name "Serina" and highlighted the age differences 22 years old to 48 years old.

It does not sound like a Japanese name to me. Where was she from?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Whether it sounds Japanese or not, it's a name that Japanese people use. I taught a few back in the day.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It does not sound like a Japanese name to me. Where was she from?

No bearing on the tragedy, whatsoever. This discussion needs to have any nationalistic element removed from it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's not about any nationalistic element.

I'd say it's pretty unusual for a 48 year old to marry and get a 21 year old pregnant. I'd like to know about them, e.g. if she's ex-hooker or bar girl who he's brought back or she's "escape". It's more about where she's come from socially, rather than nationally.

I'm wondering if she's "damaged" rather chemically imbalanced, herself a victim of past abuse. Or whether she just lost it because she wanted out but did not want to sign up for the whole baby thing, inherent to which would be not really loving the old guy.

I mean, seriously, a 21 year old Japanese girl is a) relatively immature, and b) has a lot of life left in her to live.

Is one really going to hook up with an oji-san and give it all up for a life of nappies and serving him beer?

99.99 times out of a hundred, I know what the only kind of young girls I see walking out with old guys are.

(And that not prejudice against prostitution, I'm taking about social baggage and other problems).

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If they were having problems with childcare, why not seek assistance? My heart is broken because this baby did nothing to deserve that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's why I am asking about race and class.

For example, if she was from overseas she may not have had her mother, and family to support her.
