some people should be legally forced to be sterilized

"I didn't intend to kill him, but I think pouring earth on him amounts to having the intention,"

This woman is obviously a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Let's just be thankful the baby survived and he is never told of his start to life.

The guy who found the baby first thought it was a cat crying. But sjeesh, imagine finding a baby burried....that is something that will haunt you.

I didn't intend to kill him, I just buried him and left him to die on his own. If you don't want children, either use birth control or keep your pants on.

A neighbor was quoted as saying she frequently verbally abuses her 3 year-old daughter. I'm guessing she didn't want to add to her "problems" but couldn't actually kill her new baby, so she planned to let nature take its course.

Imagine the surprise of the guy who found the baby, tho! Wow!

Unfit mother.

How many times a week does this happen in Japan? Daily? I would say that we at a crisis level of value of life and selfishness, brought to you by "selfie sticks", facebooking every meal you eat, fiber-optically connecting every ego impulse, etc.

If the end isn't nigh, then when is? Just look at comments like this:

"some people should be legally forced to be sterilized"

You know, China is just next door if you prefer that kind of thing? You couldn't have possibly been serious, right?

"I didn't intend to kill him, but I think pouring earth on him amounts to having the intention," the mother was quoted by the police as telling investigators.

What did she intend for a tree to sprout from his buried body? Seriously. I hope they take the 3 year old to someone who will care properly for her as well.

I hope she dies a painful death.

I hope she gets the psychiatric help she so desperately needs. Good news the infant is alright after such a trauma.

"Bintaro and again... This will keep happening until some things change in society"

uh..good luck with that .

In the US many communities have anonymous drop boxes at hospitals, police stations, fire house etc, where you can drop off an unwanted child without fear of punishment. There is a door. You put the baby in and push a button to alert them and can walk away knowing that your baby will be taken care of. This has saved numerous lives.

These type of stories don't always end well. Good on the guy with the good ears to find the baby.

Anyone knows where I can go to adopt this baby?

You need to take the 3 year old too, don't break up the family.

Just heart breaking that anyone, even someone clearly with issues, think this is the choices they have...

1 ( +4 / -3 )

She should be bared from having any future children, her DNA is not needed.

I didn't say it would be easy...

How anyone cannot feel utter love and devotion toward their offspring is simply beyond by ability to understand.

Lock her up!

Culture, ingrained, sees nothing but darkness.

If no other options in life, and finding yourself sitting on the toilet in the women's bathroom at the local mall, holding your newly delivered baby in your hands - perhaps it might be better to leave the baby at the nearest koban, police station, hospital, doctor's office. Not in a bamboo forest, park, side of the road, by a stream near a hill or mountain.

I used to think that there was nothing stronger than a mother's love. I still think that generally.

But, every week I read about mothers that kill their babies, their children, and know only too well that there are thousands - no tens of thousands who will refuse to let their children see their fathers.

This woman was 35. Not 14.

Absolutely horrible. You wonder what her relationships with family and friends were like. Nobody at all she could talk to ?

Poor baby, mother, and guy that found the baby. No good for any of them.

Didn't social services/welfare just last week say they were going to do more in light of the ever-increasing child abuse/infanticide cases in Japan? Start by taking away both children from this woman immediately and issue a restraining order never allowing her to see them until adulthood (without supervision, anyway), and the lock the scumbag of a mother up for years.

If these girls/women are able to keep their pregnancies a secret from everyone around them (friends, family, classmates/co-workers) - thus making them borderline masters of disguise - how are they so easily caught in the last step or two of their "plan"?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Strong and lucky baby : surviving such a situation for 24 hours after birth is close to a miracle. Wishing him a nice life, despite having to forget or forgive that woman who doesn't deserve to be called "mother".

Again and again... This will keep happening until some things change in society.

Have a great deal of sympathy for mums (or dads) suffering from PPD but what's described in the article is an entirely different kettle of fish.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

roughneck - Anyone knows where I can go to adopt this baby?

Nice thought, but the Japanese adoption system is extremely complicated and expensive - as are most governmental administrative procedures in Japan. You'll need 25-30 grand (25-30 million yen) for lawyers and admin fees and around 3-4 years for your application to go through, if you are accepted. This kid will be in elementary school before you get to the top of the list.

, gave birth to the baby in the early hours of Aug. 2 in a restroom at a business she was visiting in neighboring Saitama Prefecture for work

She's a shipping employee. So she just goes into a restroom at a place she is making deliveries and gives birth? Wow. And she walks out with the baby somehow? Double wow.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Wow!

It doesn't say that she's married, no mention of a father, so I'll assume she's not. Pure speculation, but if we had a picture of this mother I'd bet she looks like a Garu, still trying to live the life of a 21 year old.

that is something that will haunt you.

If the baby was dead, yes. But my feeling is, if this person was able to save it's life, that joy would cancel out the shock.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Nutcase. How about the father?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The nearby resident who found the baby should've taken him home and raised him as his own. Could've been the next Momotaro or Moses.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

I hope she dies a painful death.
