Japan really needs to deal with the rampant mental health issues among some "parents"

Just take your own sorry life.

No need to drag your own kids with you.

Maybe there is more to story. It’s hard to believe that she would just take the life of her and her two daughters.

Maybe it’s just my mind trying to make sense of things. Maybe she was trying to keep warm because the car died and her phone died.

Maybe she was running from someone or something.

Mental health issues is only recently being taken seriously and given the respect it deserves. While many countries were always aware of it, it was seen more as a weakness or hindrance.

As for Japan, they have their ways where they don’t like to acknowledge that something is wrong with someone. They are told mostly to treat everyone the same even if that person is clearly handicapped physically or mentally. For the most part they will be treated no differently than other kids.

I agree. But a Japanese mother’s mentality is to kill them because they don’t want to burden / inconvenience others to care for them. Really warped-out society.

Before you pass judgement, ask yourself, 'what would it take for me to do that?'

That's every day this week, I believe, that we've heard of parents torturing and/or killing their kids, and double for this woman. Japan really needs to do something beyond lip-service and people getting defensive about the facts.

This is Japanese culture. This whole murder suicide thing, very common indeed in Japan.

Or it could be because they don’t want the child/ten to have to live with the “stigma” of a mother who committed suicide. They might think it will affect their job and marriage prospects.

Don't worry, this incident and the scores of similar incidents that happen every year will be quickly swept under the carpet and forgotten. Don't forget, there are around 80 suicides in Japan every day and a good percentage of these involve murders. The safety country.

This isn't The Mist, this type of occurrence happens way too many times in Japan.

What time did the father call the police and what happened before she left with the kids?

More women need to know there are places they can go if they have an abusive husband or family problems.

This whole murder suicide thing, very common indeed in Japan.

Back in the '70s, an incident such as this was called "family suicide" in some English-language newspapers. Not sure when they started calling it "murder suicide," which is what it is.

This woman was desperate, for whatever reason. It is wrong to take her children with her, but she could not see that anymore.

We, specially, foreigners, in Japan, must try and help more. It is difficult for me to really understand Japanese people and I come here for 30 years and live here a total of 11 years.i try.

On the other hand Japanese people in general do not open up to foreigners. Combine that with an ever more selfish attitude from all people and there are more and more people feeling isolated and desperate.

I have no solution, I can only try to help when I see where I can help. But must of us, could try harder, that includes myself

I read about this kind of incident three or four times a decade where I come from. However, I read about these incidents monthly in Japan. Japan has to stop ignoring mental health and depression. They also have to stop creating it in their oppressive society.

Ok, maybe you are reading newspapers that don't report it so often back home, and do report it here more. What are the actual numbers? They are all that matters, not the number of stories you read in for-profit news.

The government really needs to step up mental help.... And needs to educate the public on reporting early to authorities on those who show symtoms of abuse and mental deterioration.

I can understand and forgive suicide, depression is not something where you apply standard logic, but I cannot forgive murder.

Thousands of parents with young children die every year due to accidents and illness. Their children live on. Like other children, sometimes they thrive, sometimes they don't, but they all get a chance. That was denied the two victims here. RIP.
