Pair arrested for blasting adult video audio inside Harajuku train station toilet

In addition to men’s and women’s restrooms, in Japan you’ll often see a third category of public restroom. Inside these you’ll find only a single toilet, but the layout is spacious enough to accommodate users who need a wheelchair, crutches, or walking stick for mobility, and the room is outfitted with support rails, child seats, and large changing tables. They’re designed to accommodate not only physically handicapped or elderly users, but also parents with small children and caretakers who are accompanying adults with special needs.

In Japanese, the rooms are called tamokuteki toire, which translates literally to “multipurpose restroom.” However, people passing through Tokyo’s Harajuku Station one day in June were surprised to hear the sounds of passionate love-making coming from behind the door of the facility’s multipurpose restroom.

The sound continued for five uninterrupted minutes, during which time someone informed the station staff, who came to investigate. It turned out to be the work of a 26-year-old man who was playing the sound from a porno video inside the restroom on a speaker with the sound cranked up.

While this might sound like a strange ploy for the man’s personal sexual gratification, the driving force behind the incident were actually some of man’s other great desires: money and/or fame. Following the discovery of the speaker, a camera was found in the hallway outside the restroom. It turns out the 26-year-old, who was working with a 23-year-old accomplice, is an aspiring YouTuber and was planning to upload a video to the platform of the shocked reactions of passersby who heard the sounds of humping emanating from the bathroom.

Instead of getting internet famous, though, the pair have now been officially charged by police with violation of public nuisance ordinances, which both men have admitted to. The video they recorded was also confiscated on the spot, and thus won’t be being uploaded to YouTube or any other video streaming service.

In hindsight, it seems like the YouTuber’s plan was doomed to end up with him getting caught, but maybe he was counting on the tendency many Japanese people have to not get involved when they see something unusual going on, and figured enough people would react but not tell anyone about the sounds for them to get the footage they wanted, collect their camera, and make their getaway before the authorities got involved.

This made me laugh, joke's on you! I remember reading a few years back that an electronics worker in China unintentionally played a banned adult film (Forbidden Chopsticks) on a large LED display (similar to what you see in Akiba) because his portable dvd player was still connected to the large screen.

Regarding the first paragraph, you can find these restrooms in other countries as well.

Was it really porn audio, or just the sounds of a chipmunk on helium hyperventilating?

Japan's very own Sacha Baron Cohen ! ^_^

Ha, very good.

It was a JP porn then. Japanese ladies are beautiful but some noise cancelling headphones are essential if you ever make it to the bedroom.

I always wondered where they collectively developed those noises from as no other Asian women do that from my limited experiences.

SBC actually got away with all his escapades though.

Damn, would really of liked to watch this on YouTube. Life is too serious, sometimes it is good to step back and have a good laugh.

Especially when they are faking it, sorry to say.

It's a shame pixellation doesn't have any audio.

Watching healthy, funny pranks on YT along with tv news bloopers from all over the world is one of the things that makes me depressed sometimes... anything can happen on live tv and the casts simply laugh the incident away. Meanwhile everything in Japan is followed by a "moushiwake arimasen" and deep bows.

Another “Only in Japan” moment.

Multiuse toilets have huge sliding doors to allow wheelchairs in. They rattle a lot if you shake them, so there is plenty of scope for special effects to go with your porn audio.

That Harajuku station design makes me sad.

Well, at least this story has lifted the mood a bit after all the depressing ones we've been getting lately...

Btw, it's "multi purpose toilet".

I don't give a damn about this silly story, just want to comment that the new Harajuku station building is awful. The old building had such charm.

I used the old station hundreds of times, Mrs. Noakes thousands of times. She was so angry when she saw the new design I thought she was going to punch the television, and all because JR want to gouge as much money as possible out of the passengers using it. And I bet there's still no hot water in the toilets.

Sounds like pretty much anything can be deemed a "public nuisance" and result in your arrest. Would this have been ignored if it were instead war movie audio?

Giggling here! I guess the dude haha forgot to switch to ear phones and he thought he was in his own secret pleasure zone.

I use these toilets a lot because I can take my dog inside. I worry that if he barks while we are inside will I get arrested when I come out?

Should be renamed "Watabe Toire"

Good point. I got a bunch of negatives too. Lighten up everyone. The fellow was poking fun at us and he get's arrested.

I still laugh about a time when cell phones were a brand new thing. I was in a public restroom and in one of the stalls someone was talking loudly, carrying on a one sided conversation. Woooo-OOOOO-oooo. Let me wash my hands and get the heck out of here was my first thought. Then the stall door opened and a fellow stepped out yakking into a cell phone. Whew, thought there was a kook in there.

As if the air in Tokyo wasn't hot enough already and its denizens' covid cabin fever not yet dialed up to eleven. Maybe the virus had finally crept into their skulls like some mad cow disease. Or they just simply needed to give everyone a chance to chill out to break the tension of living dangerously in the time of corona. As the English are wont to say, "there's nowt so queer as folk"!

Too bad nobody told them that YouTube's algorithm won't promote their brand of "content" and if by chance it did, they would be flagged and removed.

I seem to say it a great deal lately, but play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Does this remind anyone else of the TV programme Candid Camera? A youtuber does this and it is a public nuisance, a TV channel does this sort of thing and it is funny.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Maybe he should have taken his extra-large speakers in with a monster woofer and brought down the terribly designed Harajuku station.

Can't he just use the street like other dogs?

Hey, what did you do during Obon vacation?

Hung out in a toilet and then got arrested? And You?

I cleaned my house...........I guess you win.
