Police officer arrested for assaulting woman in Okinawa

A 31-year-old police officer in Ginowan, Okinawa, has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman in her 30s, with whom he was in a relationship.

According to police, Shogo Sunagawa, a sergeant in the community affairs division, beat the woman’s face and arms at her apartment sometime between 12 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sankei Shimbun reported.

The injured woman called relatives who then contacted police.

Police said Sunagawa has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he lost his temper over her indifferent attitude during an argument.

Another weak, cowardly loser. Not a real man. Put him in prison and see how tough he really is.

Dude! Just walk away. At your age, don't you understand that you can never win a fight with a women?

"Why didn't she call the police directly?"

perhaps because of the light blue wall of code?

As a retired officer I cannot see a valid reason for his behavior. He should be dismissed.

An officer of the Community affairs division was arrested for domestic violence? Classic!

community affairs division,

how ironic!

not condoning his actions but passive aggressive behavior is a mastered art here which can get right under your skin m. But again not a reason to get physical.

Why didn't she call the police directly?

Also, how cliche - a cop committing domestic violence. Throw him off the force and into jail.

Another cop committing another crime.

Gotta love their screening process in the hiring of these useless tax money wasters.

The Fox watching the Hen House...so to speak.

Perhaps ‘anger management’ classes needs to be added to curriculum, testing & board reviews for promotions within the “Community Affairs’ division ?

The Boston police dept. head was kicked out for domestic violence in late 2020. Just because somebody wears a badge doesn't necessarily mean s/he follows it.

31 yrs old Sergeant ?

This man Sunagawa is not responsible enough emotionally to be a police officer let alone a Sergeant.

Sometime between 12am and 9am ? Is a bit vague.

Iam glad the woman had the courage to report it and she recovers rapidly.

Domestic abuse against women is very common in Japan.

Iam glad women are gaining more respect.

Reads like he wasn’t leaving her apartment til she gave in to what he was asserting:

“[off-duty Community Affairs Sgt.] Sunagawa has admitted to the charge [of assaulting a woman whom he was in a relationship] quoted him as saying he lost his temper over her indifferent attitude during an argument.” -

Cops losing their tempers?

But the number of domestic abuses in Japan are not the cause for concern that they are in other countries-talking from my own personal experience of what I have seen in Japan-cops don’t care too much as they would say for shoplifting.

Well he was doing his job, He was out and about communicating with the community, She just didn't like the way he was communicating. It's not his fault if she bruises easy .... Give the guy a break ....
