Police officer arrested over fire outside home of ex-mistress

Police in Yokohama have arrested a 40-year-old police sergeant on suspicion of arson and breaking and entering after he allegedly set a fire outside the apartment of his ex-girlfriend in March.

According to police, the officer, Daisuke Inoue — who was arrested on Thursday — has admitted to the charges. Police said Inoue broke into the apartment complex at around midnight early in March and set fire to paper rubbish that had been placed at the building’s garbage collection site. No one was injured in the fire.

The woman, in her 30s, had been in a relationship with Inoue, who is married, from 2014 to the end of 2018. At the start of April, she consulted police about being stalked by a former boyfriend.

In mid-April, Kanagawa police issued a restraining order on Inoue to cease stalking activities. After that, Inoue’s name came up as a possible suspect in the arson case. When he was questioned regarding the fire, he admitted to the charge and was quoted by police as saying he was angry at his ex-girlfriend.

That’s how you want to win her back or get your “revenge?” Burning down the entire building and taking out people who had nothing to do with your relationship.

Relationships can be difficult - lots of emotions and people acting irrational. Relationships while married, well that's just plain wrong. I would hope his wife had already started divorce proceedings and that this guy finally gets some help.

So, does anybody have any doubts about the general mental health state in Japan? This loon is a senior police officer and he does this kind of irrational and quite insane kind of thing. However, his charges will not include any kind of mental evaluation. He will get a pay cut and be back on the job within a week.

A police sergeant given ONLY a restraining order? That's it??? Didn't the police department do anything more severe as he is a public servant/a POLICE SERGEANT???

If you are suggesting there is a mental health problem in japan, then please state what it is, with some supporting evidence.

Reading a bunch of articles about people doing kooky things aggregated from a nation of 130 million people, is not at all evidence that there is any problem in that nation. You could pick any group of 130 million people on this planet, and you will get enough kooky stories to fill the news every day - and then some.

Japan may indeed have a problem with mental health, but that is not the given that you seem to assume it is. It’s not been shown by the existence of some articles on a site.
