Abe, one of Japan's most influential and divisive politicians

There are many things you could say about Abe-san, but divisive and influential he was NOT!

Due to the complexity of the case, it would take months before his trial begins

Or even years?

Any bets Yamagami won't get the death penalty or life?

Furuawa said his trial is a serious case and involve a jury panel of citizens. Due to the complexity of the case, it would take at least several months before his trial begins, he said.

He shot Abe on camera in broad daylight with DOZENS of witnesses.

He has now been ruled fit to stand trial.

How does this take more than an afternoon?

In this case, the Japanese Justice System could learn a thing or two from the United States where the term "Justice delayed is Justice Denied."

It doesn't always work out that way in the States either, but it's a nice goal to work towards.

From now on the spotlight will be on Yamagami and OFF Abe and the LDP's murky ties to dark Mooniemoney.

This "complex" case will probably take years. The ironic thing is, by the time he stands trail, he really will be genuinely mentally deranged, probably a vegetable after months and months in a Japanese detention centre.

If not for this murderer we wouldn't hear of the unification cult.

I'm looking forward to the trial and His explanation of why he shot Abe. Especially Abe and his families dealings with the cult. It should make interesting reading.

When will the CULT be indicted?

Lawyers really have no power over the police and or for their clients not even in the Court system. The only power over the police and the justice system if there is any would be the mass media and that is why they delayed this man's trial. The police and the government were hoping to for this story to die down, but I bet once this goes to Court the media will go crazy and lots more is going to come out about many present acting politicians and let's see how many will resign.

Thousands of people have signed a petition requesting leniency for Yamagami, and others have sent care packages to his relatives or the detention center.

It is clear to many Japanese people the why and wherefore of the matter hence the sympathy

@Nemo Somewhat INCORRECT This was witnessed by the world. Look at the cases of what happened to Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald and Sirhan Sirhand who killed Robert F. Kennedy, these guys supposedly murdered and was murdered in broad day light and on national TV. Look at the court process and the proceeding the US has its issue in the justice system also and I wouldn't say its the best but its ok!!!

The LDP should observe if the people want leniency for the assassin of Abe, the people are showing their real disdain for the LDP

He should apply for bail. When refused, apply again. (In Japan a defendant can apply for bail unlimited times). If refused apply again, and keep applying until Japans useless imbecile rubber stamping judges actually start carrying out their role as judges.

Sentenced for life ? Or to death ?

If for life, it will cost Japan a lot of yenxyenxyen if he lives a long time.

If to death, why not give him a bottle of sleeping tablets and advice to take them before bedtime?

Look at the donations that's has been going his way through his uncle. The public sympathy is with him.

The society that allows the moonies to create the yamagamies of the world should be put on trial.

The politians who benefited from the church through money and campaigns should be put on trial.

Wouldn't be surprised if #freeyamagami starts trending.

ok and no words abt moonies involvement...as expected....

Only in Japan would a HIGH level case like this would take SO LONG! All the proof and evidence they need to make this an open/shut case was caught live on TV, yet they want to drag their feet! I say let the public choose his fate!
