Please oh please - for every 10 people working their way thru college with normal jobs, there is 1 who decides it's just too hard to struggle and easier to do porn. Socialized everything won't change the excuses those women make.

And again, the mass majority of women here involved in porn are not having a loaded gun to their head or living in Aokigahara forest with zero options. So dry your tears for these women. Every one of these reported stories is exactly the same. Women don't read the contracts BEFORE signing them as well as asking questions about line items in said contracts. When in a situation where they are verbally (not physically) told they must make porn movies, they don't say no, walk out, hire a lawyer to fight, etc - they just say "oh, ok, I don't really want to do it, but I guess I will."

If I didn't read my Softbank mobile phone contract and signed it, but buried deep in the fine print was this ridiculous line item saying if I try to cancel my contract before the expiration date, I am liable for the monthly fee x months remaining plus cancellation fee plus misc fees" - you can bet you life I, as well as most people, would be hiring lawyers and going to court - not running to the bank to withdraw money.

There are other jobs in the world. Not as ritzy or glamorous (or sleazy). These women all come at it with some level of interest in the fame and bigger, faster money. They can read the terms if they wanted to. They could say no if they wanted to. They could find a lawyer if they wanted to. NOBODY has ever been accused, charged or convicted of raping these women.

Brilliant - Social Justice Warriors read this it is based on FACT

This is a difficult subject to talk about.

I have known women who paid their way through college by acting in adult films, and even, in one case, by engaging in prostitution. They got out of the business as soon as they could. If we had socialized education, perhaps they would not have felt the need to to do those things.

We had a distant relative who engaged in prostitution in New York City for ten years, as an expensive prostitute. At the end of that time she moved to Germany, got married, and settled down, with a nest egg.

I have never known any, but we hear stories of women who are forced to do prostitution. That to me sounds awful, and the people involved should be punished.

Andrew crisp - well, I guess if your 1 unsubstantiated anecdote is any proof, prostitution is A- OK!

According to Lighthouse, a Tokyo-based group that helps human trafficking victims, it was contacted by 100 women in 2016 and 99 women in 2017 who were seeking consultations after being forced to appear in adult videos. They were typically deceived as they were recruited as models.

"Deceived?" I'm sorry, but in this internet day and age, I find it awfully hard to buy that line that these girls going into adult video were in any way 'deceived' about what they were going to do.

I saw a porn company talking to some young women in Tokyo offering them a chance to do porn the offer was a firm "no" until the money was offered it took less than a minute for one of these young women to grab the cash and offer her services.

Its not unusual for young women to graduate High School on one day the do a porn film the next day - I agree I don't believe anyone was "deceived", regretted their actions yes most likely.

Another contaminated post flooded by off topic troll posts

indeed. When will poor Strangerland ever learn his lesson?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

I think the forced adult video issue is more an issue of contract law rather than sexual abuse. The JK industry is just a question of underage employment. If they are overage then there is no problem whatsoever

I think any normal person feels sorry for those who feel they have to choose to work or are forced into a sex trade & society should HELP get these peoples lives turned around.

But as some posters have pointed out there are a LOT of people in Japan who KNOWINGLY do these jobs for fast ca$H & society often glamourizes this too boot.

And people lets not forget that MEN also get caught up in the sex trade! Society should help everyone, just saying!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

There are however some girls that are interested in the sex trade, and enjoy the work.

This is what many "men" tell themselves to lesson the guilt.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

When there are few options to support oneself, when one has been compromised by nude photos etc, when one becomes a sex worker out of desperation, then it it is really dishonest to say that a person has “chosen” to become a sex worker.

The choice is always made, against what one considers to be an even worse alternative. You have to feel for the women that are in such a position, and go the route of sex worker seeing it as the better alternative, even though they absolutely do not want to do it. That's got to be one of the worst feelings ever.

There are however some girls that are interested in the sex trade, and enjoy the work.

The world is a nuanced place, and it's almost impossible to make any definitive statement about any group on anything, without eventually coming to some sort of exception.

Sorry to tell you, Mr. Pelham, but many of these same women you refer to - the ones here in Japan - their main goal is quick, easy money. Not out of desperation to support themselves or any other desperation. They want to be famous, as well. The nonsense about being forced to say yes and perform because of some terms in the contract - try reading the contract before you sign it. Nobody is forcing fame on them. Nobody forced them to sign the contract. Seems a normal person would say no and hire a lawyer, not say yes and then do not only 1 movie, but dozens or hundreds.

Japanese government must make laws against sexual harassment more stringent and provide maximum punishment for crimes committed against young women to curb such evil practices in the society.

Japanese government must make laws

3 ( +3 / -0 )

No one dreams of being a sex worker when she is growing up. When there are few options to support oneself, when one has been compromised by nude photos etc, when one becomes a sex worker out of desperation, then it it is really dishonest to say that a person has “chosen” to become a sex worker. The entire culture and economic landscape is designed to drive a percentage of the population into servitude and to render all women vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

"So called JK Businesses"

Oh no, they ARE JK Businesses NOT SO CALLED.

I love the Japanese media glossing over the crap here.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

More of this please, Japanese people.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Hmmmm I wouldn't call willing participants "victims".

These girls know exactly what they are doing. Educate young women in this country. These protests do nothing

0 ( +5 / -5 )

I'm not against this movement even it's designed by government, at least will demonstrate to yakuza groups to step behind young girls business in Kabukicho. Another thing is to protect especially those girls "flying" to illusive neon signs like insects around lights in midnight hours and find them fall down dead the next morning.

Things won't change overnight, but it's finally a start in the right direction, and undoubtedly mistakes will be made along the way by all.

Wonder what's going to happen to the "Gentlemen's Clubs" ?

They're clearly places of Workplace Sexual Harassment .

I find it awfully hard to buy that line that these girls going into adult video were in any way 'deceived' about what they were going to do

It happens even in the 21st century. It's these attitudes that prevent people coming forward which makes it harder for people to come forward.

Just a thought, but perhaps harassment & abuse and how to avoid them should be put in the education system. Think the annual HR accepted behaviour many companies in other countries do, but integrated into the school system to ingrain in young minds not to do this.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Human trafficking and abuse of women are NOT the same. However, girls and women caught in trafficking can get abused and used for both legal and illegal activities. The same can happen to boys and men as well.

While marches, rally and demonstrations do attract the media and some public awareness, interest and sympathy, calling for an "end" to something that has existed since the beginning of time for all living things, including animals and plants, may be almost impossible. The problem here is social perspective and values that is different in every society.

What this particular group though not really stated in the slogan used, may be saying that "exploiting" and intentionally or unintentionally abusing girls and women for profit and business, regardless of consent, does not meet the social or societal "perspective" and "standard" set up of the members of the group. And they are stating that the rest of the society should agree with their belief and not accept and not allow that such practice.

The only control and remedy for that is to make changes in laws and in allowing the enforcement of those laws through the policing agencies such as the police and the tax office.

Watch this if you can find it. A police officer tries to arrest a gaijin asking a JK girl what she's doing and supports the tout... they go to a childporn shoot... a government official proudly announces in an Austin Powers moment that 37 (Thirty-Seven!) people were indicted for possessing child pornography last year in the whole of Japan...

If the girls are under age or coerced then yes close them down and put the owners in prison.

If they are over age and willing participants then it is their choice. Freedom of the individual is also important. While I find it very tacky, if some bloke with more money than sense wants to squander it this way and the girl is happy to take it off him then it is their choice.

"Heres a radical idea for the govt; Shut them down." umm, have you ever seen the customers?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I was sitting in a pub last night watching some old fella play around with his 20 something hostess. I dunno how much he paid her, but she was pretty young and he had his hands all over her. This shouldn't be seen as just a man's crime. There are plenty of girls out there ready to take a few hundreds dollars of an old man after patronising him for a few hours. I'm sure many of the girls are coerced into it, bit I'm also sure most of the girls do it willingly, both for the cash and the attention. As long as there are girls willing to play, there will be men willing to pay.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

This culture supports middle aged men going to concerts and being fans of girls young enough to be their daughters and granddaughters, great effort but I fear this type of mentality is not going to be easy to change.

"so-called JK business"

This is child prostitution, plain and simple. This is what happens in a patriarchal society. Even though men are in charge, they put the blame on those who do not have power, women.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Good Call clamenza,

So, what is the call to action????? Just some crappy rally that does nothing except another virtue signalling photo op for some up coming election???

This rally helped nobody except the organizers!

CHANGE THE LAW.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Meanwhile, statistics compiled by the National Police Agency show there were 131 JK business shops in Japan as of the end of last year, with Tokyo being the location for the largest number of 83.

The business offers various services involving girls purported to be JK, which stands for "joshi kosei," meaning female high school students.

Heres a radical idea for the govt;

Shut them down.
