No doubt this is going to add financial strain and stress in many households. Relationships will be highly tested.

The thin veneer of civilization.

Yesterday, my wife was nagging me about some rental expenses, I snuggled into my futon and I breathed in and out slowly for a few minutes-I drifted off into dreamland....

I can see this becoming a necessity already

however keeping your mouth closed may provide assistance.

You know what would 'provide assistance'? People - overwhelmingly but not 100% men - not hitting their partners and children. If you are feeling violent, go and get help.

girl in Tokyo,

My oh my aren't we testy this morning! WHY on earth did YOU presume the following was only meant for WOMEN......pretty quick to jump the gun aren't we now. Be fair now, show some equality please. And how about some sympathy for all the men now stuck in their own homes where a GREAT many are tolerated at BEST, so yeah thus is going to be stressful on people.

Oh, I totally agree with you! Men should keep their mouths shut, too, so their wives won't hit them.

Society has done this to people & BOTH men & women to this to EACH OTHER, come one ladies about time to accept your share of the blame huh.

Men and women are both definitely to blame.

Look I DO NOT condone violence & no doubt some will occur, but it occurs for reasons, people who face this should of course be helped, even if they are partially to blame for everything that has taken place in their mutual homes.

I'm with you. I do not condone violence, but it occurs for reasons! And that reason is a mouthy spouse! But of course you should not hit your mouthy spouse, even if they goad you. And if someone hits their spouse, they are at least partially to blame and should of course be helped.

It has been advised that if people feel in danger to try drinking a glass of water. The water won't do much, however keeping your mouth closed may provide assistance.

Now that is a funny joke - women should just be quiet so men won't hit them! I'm sure that would work wonders. You are a real card. Keep up the good work.

Hopefully, sending the kids back to school will spare them the brunt of frustrations.

To all the men with crazy or evil wives / girlfriends (the often forgotten or ignored victims of DV). Hang in there, this won't last for long.

The support groups , and kobanites wont be able to control it, they may have to boots on the ground , like in numerous other countries now.

Not only domestic violence but also suicides especially in here in Japan.

Take a look at how many men kill their partners vs how many women do. It gets exhausting reading the comments on these kinds of topics on JT because so many of you think it’s a joke. “What about men?!?? They suffer too!” Yes, they do. Most often at the hands of other men with regards to violence and why men kill themselves regarding work stress. A shame you’d rather blame women then address the issue of men’s behavior.

Just to make sure.

To every people which consider that in case of domestic violence where a woman is victim of physical violence she should accept her share of the blame because it takes 2 to create a situation, and the like : does this mean you consider than a man victim of physical violence should also assume that it is partly his responsibility ? what about child ? what about other kind of violence : psychological, sexual, ... ? what about violence outside of the household ? Is there a moment you consider someone which suffered violence is 100% a victim ?

Look I DO NOT condone violence

Phew.

Rather patronizing comment.

come one ladies about time to accept your share of the blame huh.

Yes, ladies. Listen to the brave few of JT, who will champion their own, but not the usual victims of domestic violence.

So people, try to be nice to each other, bit your tongues if need be, this isn't going to be easy for ANYONE!!

But easier if the women here stop complaining, right?

Women! Know your place!

Calm down. No one is being sexist. My point was that when men are victims of DV (as I was for 2 years) we are usually ignored, mocked or not taken seriously. This is why many male victims of DV do or say nothing.

Yes men can be evil towards women. Yes most 'reported' DV cases are made by women seeking help. Yes women get protected and their claims are taken seriously. Yes I agree both men and women should not be subjected to DV.

U see, this can happen because that marriage and family life is long over .

Above is true. but perhaps we should include men driven to suicide by their wives, while men are stronger women also cause great damage & many deaths without raising a fist...… BOTH are scary, but  they both are real!!

Just one of the reasons why a lockdown should be carefully considered.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Domestic violence is but one aspect of people staying at home and trying to adjust to something and some people they are not accustomed to during the so called normal working days. Many were used to trying to accommodate each other during weekends and when leaving for work or after work. It may be surprising for many to realize that so much need for communication or the need to not communicate exists in any relationship.

However to say that domestic violence is by men toward women may not be the best way to describe and to stigmatize the situation. It always takes two to tangle, regardless of sex.

And there are two abuses which can turn to physical violence. One is verbal abuse and the other is physical abuse. And all of that depends on the relationships established between the family members till then. And there is as much politics in a home as well as in business and in the rest of society.

This situation really brings out the true nature of the relationships within a family or relatives environment. The proximity and the lack of "time break" from each other can be a very stressful event for those that are not prepared for it. And it is totally different from work environment but the work environment still comes home and impacts the entire family.

No one can create a policy or procedure or laws to control that. Even education cannot control one's emotional state and levels of reaction.

to those that are suffering ( or will suffer ) at the hands of their husband / wife because they can,t handle staying at home for a few days / weeks ( now that,s what i call weak btw ), i got news for ya: you married the wrong person ...

Governments around the world have been warning women not to nag or harass their partners while the lockdown is on.

Japanese wives can be very vocal about household finances.
