Carlos Ghosn has not been charged with any offenses in relation to the findings of either carmaker concerning incentive payments to SBA, the Omani partner, the Ghosn family spokesman said.

No, of course not, but just making the allegations is enough!

I bet no matter how many charges and allegations pile up, the guys in here will still defend the guy.

More mud throwing no new charges. No confession, prosecutors appear to have resorted to character assassination rather then admit their case is flimsy. Which is odd as a 99% conviction rate would tell they are the absolute bestest in the galaxy at obtaining proof. Or a forced confessions.

Cash from Ghosn's own "CEO office" budgets at Renault as well as Nissan moved through the regional sales divisions to SBA and on to a Lebanese intermediary, "Good Faith Investments Holding"

Good Faith Investments Holding huh? Either Ghosn has a sense of ironic humor or is a criminal troll. He's done

Until the prosecution proves up its cases, Ghosn is entitled to the presumption of innocence. If you knew anything about Japan's "justice" system, you'd know the prosecutors are relatively incompetent without confessions.

Well it's not just the Japanese prosecutors, it's the French prosecutors, too. It looks like JT kind of switched the article on us. I swear, the first time I read this page, it was a longer article that talked about the French prosecutors going after Ghosn more.

It's not illegal for a CEO to channel company money to his own associates so what's the issue? The French are grasping at straws here.

Agree with other posters, all allegations against Ghosn are fake news and for purposes of character assassination and meaningless allegations. It's very disappointing that the French too are now falling for this and also investigating these legal payments to legal companies

> Ghosn's spokesman has previously said payments of $32 million made over nine years were rewards for the Oman firm being a top Nissan dealer. Such dealer incentives were not directed by Ghosn and the funds were not used to pay any personal debt, the spokesman said.

Ghosn was arrested in Tokyo in November and faces charges of financial misconduct and aggravated breach of trust over allegedly failing to report around $82 million in salary and for temporarily transferring personal financial losses onto Nissan's books during the financial crisis.

These two paragraphs sum up the prosecutor's case quite well. The only thing he is guilty of is, using his position as CEO of Nissan to promote the company and reward dealerships. His actions may not be scrupulous, but they are not illegal either. This whole disaster should have been handled by Nissan internally. If they were not happy with his leadership they should have just fired him. Every one of the charges against him are easily defended by the power he was given by Nissan execs when he was instated. He is not a criminal. The cowards who have accused him of wrongdoing are the real criminals.

Unless Reuters made it all up, it sure does look like Ghosn's a gonna. His defence now in tatters if it's all true. Perhaps he should have used the services of a Jersey Island banker.

Who is feeding the prosecutors documents, and why?

Why wouldn't the alliance want their money back?

I thought that in Japan it is illegal for police and prosecutors to investigate the two separate cases simultaneously.

Yesterday, there was a news story Ghosn's defence lawyer speaking out. I knew that the following day there would happen to be some new negative story about Ghosn.

there is a investigation going on in France about this case, it was brought by Renault

But Ghosn's fan club here will still shout these are fake accusations etc...

the evidence is piling up

and I doubt the jury will be convinced of Ghosn's innocence... A long time in jail is probably what awaits him, as well as years and years of dealing with the judicial system all across the world

If it is a new charge he should be back in detention.

@northernlife

police just does its job. If there is a crime or suspicion of a crime, they investigate

I bet no matter how many charges and allegations pile up, the guys in here will still defend the guy.

People will defend his right to a fair trial, and his right to be considered innocent until proven guilty, yes. And rightly so.

And remember that most of these charges are coming from Nissan itself -- conveniently enough, right at the time that Ghosn was talking of a merger between Nissan and Renault.

This would hardly please the guys at Nissan who were already displeased with Ghosn to begin with and who would then be in danger of losing their jobs.

So, the timing of everything isn't hard to figure out, or to be skeptical about.

Nope. We just want the prosecutors to actually do their jobs and prove up the cases. Suspect in Japan are meant to enjoy the presumption of innocence until found guilty. Of course, that is complete lip-service on the land of form over substance.

> the evidence is piling up

But without a confession, so we'll see what happens.

Japan doesn't have a jury system.

Why do all the Ghosn articles have pictures that make him look like a Bond villain? I swear he should have a cat in his lap.

Getting harder and harder to see this as an anti-gaijin thing with Renault (effectively under French government control) dumping on Ghosn.

He is also under investigation in the US. Nissan paid more than half a million in fees for his four kids to attend Stanford University.

For senior executives it is rather common for the company to pay for children's education.  Companies did so for my children.
